Mary Place is Hiring a Chief Program Officer Near Seattle, WA

Description

We are looking for an experienced Chief Program Officer (“CPO”) to oversee our portfolio of programs and direct services provided by Mary’s Place. The CPO will have several main areas of focus: delivering on our mission, leading an innovative team, ensuring exceptional programming, engaging our communities, and serving our guests. As a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team, the right candidate must possess a commitment to Mary’s Place’s mission, values, and culture.

In collaboration with the CEO and Strategic Leadership Team, the CPO will have a key role in the articulation and implementation of the strategic vision for Mary's Place programs and services. The CPO will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of individual programs and providing ongoing feedback to the CEO, Leadership Teams and the Board of Directors. The CPO will be expected to drive continuous improvement of programs and existing services, and create new, innovative programs that align with Mary's Place strategic goals by staying informed of developments and best practices regarding services for families experiencing homelessness.

The CPO actively engages in Mary’s Place racial equity work – striving for equitable outcomes and taking responsibility for creating, maintaining, and affirming communities for people of color, immigrants and refugees, trans and gender-non-conforming people, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions. 

This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The CPO supervises program staff including two Program Vice Presidents and a Program Administrator. 

This is a full-time, exempt position with the flexibility to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet the demands of the job. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and the annual salary range is $180K-$190K based on experience.

Key Responsibilities  

Strategic Leadership (20%) 

Working with the CEO and as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), provide visionary leadership for the agency’s strategic planning for program and service delivery, and program management across multiple sites and program areas 

  • Develop and lead implementation of strategies, plans, and projects that ensure the agency programs are effective in integrating services and supports to achieve agency objectives. 
  • Provide leadership to create and support a high-performance culture that aligns with the mission and core values of the organization 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Equity & Policy Officer to integrate actionable racial equity practices into all program areas
  • Prepare reporting and presentations for the Board 

Programs Leadership (25%) 

Lead the agency’s program and service delivery across the integrated continuum of prevention, outreach, and shelter services in live with the mission and core values of the agency. 

  • Collaboratively build, set, and communicate?vision,?strategic position,?and?desired outcomes?for programs at Mary’s Place?by providing direction and support to the Programs Leadership Team (PLT) 
  • Lead the development of new program ideas and pilot projects in collaboration with the Chief Innovation Officer, including integrating of successful pilots into existing program areas 
  • Provide leadership on major health initiatives in conjunction with health services team and Program Leadership Team; develop shelter policy and tailor programs in response to evolving community health needs
  • Draft annual program and shelter budget, lead budget process?in consultation with program directors, VPs, and Chief Finance Officer; steward resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals; maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility 
  • Provide crisis intervention support and supervision in response to incidents and issues impacting guest experience 
  • Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward a goal by clearly communicating agency vision, implementing yearly staff development plans, and mentoring 
  • Establish program area and staff goals and objectives on an annual basis, including tracking and reporting results against established goals 

Cross-Functional Leadership (20%) 

  • As a member of the Extended Leadership Team (XLT), collaborate with other functional leaders on the policies, procedures and systems that require cross-functional effort to resolve problems and improve processes. Come prepared to each leadership team meeting and be fully present, assume positive intent and listen to understand. 
  • Center equity in all aspects of your work as a leader and member of the XLT. Centering equity includes operationalizing the Equity Theory of Change and Action Plan within your scope of work. As an XLT leader, you are also expected to partner with the Equity department to build your knowledge and capacity to center equity through continuous learning and development for yourself and your team.
  • Effectively communicate priorities, updates, and organizational news from the XLT to your managers and staff. Represent your team’s perspective and experience at leadership team Meetings. Create space for your staff to give input and feedback that gives them a voice in decision-making. Be a role model for transparency in communication and decision-making. 
  • Demonstrate accountability by accepting responsibility for your actions and decisions and for actions and outcomes of your teams. Provide input to decisions and support for the leadership decisions once made. Assess and be accountable for the impact of decisions. 
  • Steward financial resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, working with Program Directors to create budgets, monitor financial reports and adjust spending within budget. Comply with all financial policies and procedures and ensure your teams do as well. Respond timely to all reporting deadlines. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of coding and data inputs (e.g. classes and accounts) 
  • Use all available data to inform decisions and actions. Ensure data integrity and comply with all data policies and procedures in working with the data managed by you and your teams. 

Community and Donor Relationships (20%) 

Lead the building and sustaining of key community partnerships and relationships that synergistically advance the cause of helping families in their journey from homelessness. 

  • Collaborate with the Community Development Leadership team (CDLT) to create and implement partnerships that leverage community expertise and resources in order to best serve families.
  • Working closely with the Chief Development Officer and the development team, support fund development efforts through the promotion and execution of fundraising events, proposal writing, and by stewarding important relationships and serving a liaison to government agencies and private philanthropic organizations

Team Leadership and Management (15%) 

Provide direction and guidance to the team of leaders that are responsible for developing and executing plans, goals, and projects across all operating functional areas of the organization.

  • Supervise two Vice Presidents and a Program Administrator; facilitate weekly 1:1 meetings; work closely with direct reports to build skill sets in leadership, mentoring, managing, and motivating staff 
  • Coach, develop, and support team 
  • Set clear expectations and provide direction to team 
  • Provide structure and process for accountability in each program team 
  • Communicate frequently and provide coaching and support in performance of job duties 
  • Provide personal and professional growth and development opportunities through assignments, projects, and training opportunities 
  • Provide guidance on troubleshooting performance challenges; mentor on how to proactively engage in planning to improve program management; support with corrective actions and job performance coaching as needed

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications  

  • The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree and at least 10 years of experience leading and implementing social services strategies and programs. 
  • Prior experience leading and motivating large teams is required; experience working with teams at multiple locations preferred 
  • A strong commitment to social justice and a passion for Mary’s Place’s mission 
  • Compelling communication and influencing skills, a strong work ethic, impeccable integrity, positive attitude, and strong commitment to working collaboratively 
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic plans and overseeing major initiatives 
  • Relevant experience working in a shelter setting or with individuals experiencing homelessness preferred 
  • Demonstrated problem solving, conflict mediation, and crisis management skills
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and maintain professional demeanor in a high-stress environment 
  • Broad knowledge of social work practice and clinical theory, including diagnostic and treatment skills in family systems approach is desired 
  • Proficient with MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook) as well as electronic case management systems required 
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by learning and following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information 
  • Prior experience with child welfare system is a plus
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude
  • Effective communication skills combining listening and speaking in large group and small group/individual settings and through email 
  • Exhibits compassion and empathy; works well with men, women, and children from all ethnic, social, economic and sexual orientation backgrounds
  • Attention to detail, using critical thinking skills to strategize, develop and implement business plans, create, and edit documents

  • Ability to converse with and listen to people in many different settings 
  • Ability to use a computer and telephone, as well as other standard office equipment 
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use fingers, hands, and arms 
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, and/or carry supplies up to 25 pounds 
  • Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required 
  • Travel to program sites and meetings outside the site and around the county are necessary 
  • Ability to work in an environment where there may be animals present, including dogs
