JOB SUMMARY:
**** Pay range: $17.81 - 19.28 ****
Responsible for developing and implementing a high quality, nurturing, anti-bias, developmentally appropriate environment, utilizing the YWCA's anti-bias curriculum for a diverse classroom. This position is also responsible for the daily care and nurturing of a primary care group of children and reporting the child's progress to parents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in the smooth operation of the classroom as described below:
  • In partnership with Lead Teacher, develop and implement developmentally appropriate, anti-bias, multi-cultural curriculum for the classroom and primary care group by following the YWCA's ELM Curriculum.
  • Foster a classroom environment conducive to the long range curriculum objectives.
  • Ensure nurturing, culturally sensitive care for each child.
  • Foster and assess physical, social, emotional and cognitive development in each child.
  • With the Lead Teacher, School Readiness Specialist, Family and Community Specialist and/or ECE Specialist, consult with parents and provide individual developmental plan(s) and services for special needs and resources for at-risk children.
  • Provide work direction and supervision to classroom staff.
  • Provide opening or closing security.
  • In absence of Lead Teacher, take responsibility of leadership and supervision.
  • Lead curriculum activities.
  • Maintain behavior guidance plans for children.
  • Assure the safety of the children and make sure families are informed and included.
Handle overall site needs and all record keeping as described below:
  • Maintain high level of health and safety and assure emergency procedures are known and practiced.
  • Assist teams in maintaining files and recording keeping for government, funder and accreditation requirements, and any other administrative responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure all child assessments and child portfolios are up to date and current.
  • Assist teams in monitoring and obtaining supplies, equipment and repairs for classroom.
  • Participate in ECE center, building and agency teams as assigned.
  • Actively pursue professional development.
  • Understand and interpret the YWCA mission to children, staff and families.
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education or equivalent -OR- Child Development Associate (CDA) plus 12 credits in Early Childhood Education; *will need to be working on a plan to acquire BA or equivalent by 2015.
  • A minimum of 2080 hours of classroom experience.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize the daily routines, activities, and curriculum for the classroom children and staff.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to serve and meet the needs of the customers (Parents, children, and co-workers) in an exceptional manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with customers to gain their trust, respect and involvement with activities.
  • Ability to deal with a high level of ambiguity throughout the days to meet the needs of our children and parents.
  • Ability to delegate to responsibilities
  • Ability to mentor and guide staff
Preferred:
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Individual must have the ability to get to and from various sites/events/meetings in the metro area on an occasional basis.
