SUMMARY:

The Accounting Clerk position is responsible for providing high-quality support of day-to-day accounting operations. This position is also responsible for the payment of goods and services purchased by the organization. The Accounting Clerk will serve as an auditor, ensuring that invoices are accurate and the proper accounting procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex clerical accounting functions including financial record keeping and reporting; processes billing, invoices, purchase orders, requisitions, checks, check requests, tax reports, payments and/or deposits, reviews and verifies the same for accuracy and completeness.
  • On a daily basis, enter data into accounting systems and update various Excel spreadsheets.
  • Maintains an organized and efficient filing of records.
  • Record, maintain and reconcile credit card revenue, daily. Responsible for monthly reconciliation of credit card statements and notification of outstanding items; verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Prepare all assigned journal entries necessary to complete financial statements, including reports.
  • Reconcile all assigned balance sheet accounts and clear all reconciling items on a daily/timely basis. Grant Reconciling, preferred.
  • Manage the accounts payable function within the organization’s established policies.
  • Handle miscellaneous clerical tasks, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALICATIONS/EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • General Ledger knowledge and working with financial statement preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting with three (3) years’ experience or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills with capability in MS Office.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position requires a person who can work with many distractions, interruptions and still accomplish their objectives and meet established deadlines. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers and other necessary equipment.
  • The person in this position works full time Monday through Friday within the YWCA Central Alabama, located in downtown Birmingham. The Shift is between 8:00 am 5:00 pm. Some flexibility in hours is required based on department needs, but he employee must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status and at least 30 hours each week to maintain health benefits.
  • The work takes place in an office setting, within the center, and at times, outdoors or in the community.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands, kneel or crouch, bending or stooping, and use a computer for periods of the day.
  • The person may need to lift or carry up to 20 lbs.
  • This role may require work related travel.
