Description

POSITION SUMMARY:- Summer/Seasonal
The Sports Coordinator, under the direction of the Downtown Branch Executive Director will manage all Sports programs for the YMCA of Springfield, Lincoln Branch. This position develops, plans, and administers all new/existing programs, applies procedures and methods to achieve our strategic goals and membership/participant engagement. Ensures these programs are aligned with the Ys cause and meet the needs of our members and the community. The Sports Coordinator understands character development as the guiding principle of the YMCA and personally exhibits a commitment to that goal in all YMCA operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Overarching Goal: Through their planning, actions and daily work creates and fosters a welcoming environment for all persons of all backgrounds and abilities and has a positive, nurturing relationships with staff and children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers and program partners. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall YMCA experience.
1. Person of contact for all sports
2. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
3. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Directs the coordination for all leagues, clinics, and camps; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
4. Checks for safety/ risks / repairs needed for all fields and facilities used for sporting events
5. Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
6. Oversees the team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines, and handbooks.
7. Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
8. Organizes and conducts sports clinics and camps.
9. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers, coaches, and participants.
10. Works with development and marketing department to create program brochures and flyers.
11. Assists with the distribution of youth sports program information,
12. Organizes and schedules program registrations.
13. Reviews, awards, and processes program scholarship applications per association policy.
14. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
15. Knowledge of sports rules and anticipates changes that will impact the Department.
16. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
17. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
18. Assist in marketing all sports related programs using both social media and website material.
19. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. Bachelor's degree preferred in related field or equivalent.
2. One to two years related experience required.
3. Minimum age 21.
4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and team management software.

8. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
9. Ability to complete all required trainings within 60 days of employment, including but not limited to CPR, first aid, Living Our Cause, DCFS Mandated Report, IL Gateway Registry Modules and to maintain these certifications as current as outlined by regulations or requirements.
