WENY News is Hiring an One person dies in two-car motor vehicle accident in Avoca Near Horseheads, NY

UPDATE (2:30 PM): According to New York State Police, 51 year old Michael Hinrich of Nunda, N.Y. died as a result of injuries from the accident. Police say Hinrich, who was driving a Chevy Camaro, approached a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 415 and attempted to turn southbound onto the route.

Police say a 2018 Buick, driven by 26-year-old Michael Eldridge of Hornell was traveling northbound and struck the driver's side door of Hinrich's Chevrolet Camaro.

Eldridge was brought to Noyes Hospital for non life threatening injuries.

Christopher Nickerson, 26 of Wellsville, N.Y, a passenger in the Buick, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Casie Lewis, a passenger in the Chevrolet Camaro, was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

AVOCA, N.Y. (WENY) - On Sunday, August 6th, a two-car motor vehicle accident was reported on Michigan Hollow Road. Calls came in after 2:30 and the scene was closed off for nearly four hours. On the scene, Authorities reported one fatality.

State Route 415 (SR 415) closed at 3 p.m. and reopened when the scene was cleared shortly before 7 p.m.

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) relieved the Avoca Fire Department at 3:45 p.m. New York State Police and the Steuben County Coroners truck arrived at the scene around 4:50 p.m. and left shortly after 5 p.m.

The Avoca Fire Chief spoke with two DOT employees and said the passengers were not from the area.

The two damaged cars were towed away from the scene after 6:50 p.m. Sunday evening. Michigan Hollow Road reopened after the scene was cleared.

This is an ongoing investigation.
