Position Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Work in a safe manner, recognize and correct shop hazards, and comply with WBC safety requirements
  • Serve as a safe and productive member of the Equipment Group
  • Collaborate with Asset Manager to formulate work priorities and implement operational goals and objectives for shop related work processes
  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities based on established priorities, quantity of equipment and technical skills of available personnel on a daily basis
  • Prepare and assign work orders and specifications for machine and equipment repair. Review work orders periodically with Asset Manager as necessary to ensure that priorities are being met. Maintain electronic records for all maintenance/repair activities
  • Examine vehicles and equipment to determine extent of damage, malfunctions or maintenance needs. Confer with internal customers and WBE service providers to obtain descriptions of vehicle and equipment problems, and to discuss work to be performed
  • Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as compression gauges and computerized diagnostic devices to determine maintenance and repair needs
  • Ensure that maintenance services and repairs (including oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups) are performed according to quality and safety standards. Inspect work performed by shop personnel and test, as necessary to ensure quality
  • Plan repair and maintenance work procedures/processes using charts, technical manuals and experience
  • Monitor shop/work areas/operations and examine tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of established procedures or safety rules
  • Assist in activities related to dispatching
  • Serve as the contact person for calls relating to repairs and maintenance
  • Participate in budget preparation, coordinating purchasing, and monitor group and company expenditures related to assigned duties
  • Assist Asset Manager with inventorying equipment, material and supplies assigned to the Equipment Group. Maintain stocks of these items for the shop.
  • Assist in the evaluation of equipment purchases
  • Evaluate assigned employees to determine areas for improvement, training needs, adherence to safe work practices, etc.
  • Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies in a positive, supportive manner
  • Ensure employee time is reported accurately
  • Recommend wage adjustments to Asset Manager based on employee evaluations
  • Assist shop personnel with performing other maintenance and technical support services as necessary such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups. When necessary, disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
  • Be available for emergency calls as directed by the Asset Manager when any WBC personnel are working on sites
  • Compute estimates and actual costs of factors such as materials, labor, and outside contractors. Arrange outsourced work with external vendors as necessary.
  • Assist Asset Manager with evaluating all field-based maintenance and repair services
  • Make continuous improvements to maintenance/repair work processes. Proactively recommend specific ways to improve service to the field and reduce costs.
  • Arrange or conduct shop worker training on an individual or group basis in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures or equipment use based on needs assessments
  • Park Creek Water System – Assist with reading meters, monthly usage and chlorine report, chlorine calibration and testing, flushing system if responsible person is not available. Also perform minor maintenance and small repairs.
  • Assist with making the arrangements for welding classes
  • Participate in company sponsored safety training activities
  • Perform special projects for job sites – fabrication, welding, etc.

Complete, submit and/or file reports related to the following safety activities:

o Shop Safety Inspection Report – Conduct inspection monthly and submit report to Safety Director

o Tool Box Talks – Perform weekly and submit weekly to Safety Director

o Pre-Task Plan(s) – Routine Tasks – perform weekly – file in Shop and retain for 2 years. Non-routine Tasks – perform prior to task – file in Shop and retain 2 years.

o WBC Stretching Program – Perform daily at start of workday. Confirm daily on timesheets

o First-Aid Logs – Fill out log when supplies are used. Submit monthly to Safety Director even if no instances are recorded

o Accident / Incident involving an injury

. Administer first aid if needed and notify Safety Director immediately if accident requires medical treatment beyond first aid.

(c) Pre-Task Plan associated with the task being performed

(d) Doctor’s Notes (Initial and follow-up)

(e) Prescriptions

b) Shop Specific New Employee Orientation – Conduct first day on the job

c) Specialized Safety Training Activities – As needed, submit appropriate training document to H.R.

  • Perform all assigned roles, responsibilities, and related work processes / tasks in the safest possible manner. Ensure that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all co-workers, customers, clients, suppliers, etc. at all times.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED – required
  • Vocational or technical training/work experience/OJT in mechanics - desirable
  • Proficient in Typing - required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Analyzing and interpreting equipment maintenance manuals, schematics, diagrams, etc.
