Project Manager - World Travel Service

Job Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for new implementations, operational projects, program optimization projects, special projects, and technology product implementations.

Responsible for the utilization of established and proven project management methodology, tools, and processes (PMP, OPPM, Prince2, Six Sigma) to scope, plan, analyze, initiate, execute, monitor and control projects. The Project Manager is responsible as the primary role in delivering projects with low and medium to high complexity, risk, and visibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Targets—Financial:
  • Deliver projects in budget while actively managing cost during the execution of the project.
  • When required, work closely with Finance to help track the budget throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Successful project management which may or may not be tied to a contractual penalty (i.e. an implementation bond).
  • Meet departmental budget requirements.
Key Targets—Non-Financial:
  • Deliver projects within allocated time and resource targets and satisfying the defined scope and quality.
  • Ensure performance measurements comply with departmental/project Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  • Provide project leadership support throughout all phases of the projects assigned
Operational Functions:
  • Plan projects according to defined scope.
  • Request and confirm all necessary resources are assigned per the project scope.
  • Leverage resources from the different departments and functions to support projects.
  • Establish expectations and ground rules for the project team.
  • Facilitate effective and constant communication with all project participants (internal / external).
  • Keep the project sponsor(s) and stakeholders informed about the status of the project.
  • Manage Project risks.
  • Facilitate and drive decision making and escalation concerning the projects assigned.
  • Utilize Smartsheet for plan management and departmental reporting.
  • Lead regular conference calls and maintain project plan updates.
  • Distribute meeting notes.
Consulting:
  • Ability to lead project team in brainstorming sessions to solution problem statement.
  • Ability to validate that suggested process solutions will meet the client’s expectations.
  • Present at client and department meetings as necessary.
  • Manage 3rd party relationships as applicable for the project
Knowledge of Product Line:
  • General to strong knowledge of agent facing technology and operational processes.
  • General to strong knowledge of client facing technology and the different lines of BCD Travel's solution network.
  • General to strong knowledge of 3rd party technology solutions utilized by our clients.
  • General to strong knowledge of internal technology and infrastructure utilized by BCD Travel

Education/Knowledge/Experience

Essential:

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Project management software (Smartsheet, Excel or other).
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Professional, concise, and mature written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate and resolve show-stoppers.
  • Basic to intermediate conflict resolutions skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Travel industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years in a qualified project management role. (May include project management position/responsibilities with other depts. in the company)
  • Ability to travel.

Preferred:

  • Strong technical skills in Abacus, Amadeus, Apollo, Galileo, Sabre, Worldspan or another local GDS.
  • Six Sigma Yellow or Green belt, PMP or other project management certification preferred

  • Requires clarity of near vision. This factor is important when special and or minute accuracy is demanded and defective near acuity would adversely affect job performance and/or safety of self and others.
  • Requires ability to work other shifts and weekends and in excess of 40 hours/week, as necessary.

Mental:

  • Requires the ability to work and cooperate with other employees and clients at all levels and from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas, information, and opinions to facilitate the task at hand.

Travel: (for designated positions)

  • Requires ability to travel by car, plane, and train for prolonged periods of time domestically and internationally and to move and transport personal luggage.
