Ultimate Gaging Systems is Hiring a CNC Machinist Near Grand Rapids, MI

Job title: CNC Programmer & Operator

Reports to: Shop Foreman

Supervisory responsibilities: None

Summary/objective: Become a part of one of the leading fixture shops in West Michigan, located in the heart of Grand Rapids. Ultimate Gaging Systems (UGS) is a highly successful, growth-oriented fixture shop that provides a wide range of services to automotive, aerospace, appliance, and agriculture equipment manufacturers in greater North America.

Currently we are looking for both first and second shift CNC Machinist/Programmers to join our team who best supports our customers, co-workers, and core principles – “Commitment to meeting or exceeding our customers’ requirements and continually improving our product quality.” In this role, the CNC Machinist/Programmer produces machined fixture details by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine.

Essential functions:

  • Ability to perform your own programming and running your details
  • Setup and machine to the proper programs and tolerances required
  • Recheck setups, change cutters and inserts, and make adjustments as needed to achieve the best possible results
  • Maintain appropriate tools and keep current on calibration.
  • Keep work area clean
  • Follow all safety rules and report unsafe work conditions to management
  • Regular attendance at work during scheduled work hours
  • Employees may be requested to perform other job functions as required
  • Operate overhead cranes

Required competency, education, and experience:

  • Programming experience using WORKNC
  • Experience with 3 axis machining
  • Experience with Mazak, YCM, and/or Hurco
  • A well rounded knowledge of cutters and inserts, and feeds/speeds.
  • Candidate must have high school or equivalent education.

Preferred education and experience:

  • Experience with Small & Medium size mills
  • Experience with 5 axis machining
  • Two years of experience

Work environment: Manufacturing environment

Physical demands:

  • Candidate must have full use of all limbs
  • Candidate must be able to read and speak English
  • Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds

Position type and expected hours of work: Full time. First shift available.

Travel: None.
