Overview
As a Junior Estimator in civil construction, you will be an integral part of the project management team, assisting in the estimation of costs for various civil construction projects. Your responsibilities will include analyzing project requirements, gathering data, and preparing accurate estimates to support bidding processes and project planning. This role offers valuable experience and opportunities for growth.
Key Responsibilities
Project Analysis: Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to understand the scope, objectives, and requirements of civil construction projects.
Cost Estimation: Assist in preparing cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services based on project specifications, historical data, and industry standards.
Quantity Takeoffs: Perform quantity takeoffs and measurements from project drawings and specifications to determine the quantities of materials and resources required for construction activities.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Request and compare quotes from vendors and subcontractors for materials, equipment, and services.
Estimation Software: Utilize construction estimation software and tools to organize data, calculate costs, and generate detailed estimates and reports.
Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and efficiency improvements without compromising project quality or safety standards.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bid proposals, and related documentation. Assist in preparing bid packages, presentations, and other materials for client submissions.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to gather information, clarify requirements, and ensure alignment of cost estimates with project objectives.
Professional Development: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies in civil construction cost estimation. Seek opportunities for training and skill development to enhance proficiency in estimating practices.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Recent graduates or candidates with relevant coursework are encouraged to apply.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret project documents and perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, construction estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, HCSS Heavybid), and other relevant tools for data analysis and cost estimation.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
· Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes related to civil engineering projects.
· Prior internship or work experience in construction estimating or related field is a plus but not required.
