Overview

The St. Louis Area Business Health Coalition (BHC) represents nearly 70 leading employers, which provide health benefits to thousands of lives in Missouri and millions nationally. Since 1982, the BHC, a nonprofit organization, has supported employer efforts to improve the well-being of their enrollees and enhance the quality and overall value of their investments in health benefits.

The Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the BHC and its affiliated organizations. This includes overseeing personnel, financial management, membership programs, strategy development, external affairs, growth, and execution of BHC’s mission. The successful candidate has a proven track record of leadership with integrity and the ability to bring people together to build consensus and a common purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of the delivery of health care services, employer health benefits, local/regional/national health policy environments, and socio-economic conditions to seize opportunities for enhancing healthcare quality and affordability.
  • Work with the Board to develop and oversee BHC’s strategy.
  • Increase BHC’s position as a voice for effective population health, and safe, high quality and affordable health care.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight to BHC’s pharmacy management initiative which manages and negotiates PBM services on behalf of more than 300,000 covered lives.
  • Ensure ongoing member service excellence, communications and satisfaction.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing senior management team and staff.
  • Build and maintain a strong regional and national presence for BHC through effective relationships among regional and national health care providers, health plans, and other political and community leaders.
  • Advocate with policy makers or through strong alliances with other key individuals and organizations.
  • Oversee the integration and use of data to monitor health care spending and financial and quality performance of key players in the region’s health care system, to be able to share such information with key stakeholders.
  • Define, secure, and maintain adequate financial and other resources as needed to achieve BHC’s strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • A passion to make health care affordable, safer, and higher quality for patients, communities, and employers.
  • Advanced degree with meaningful leadership experience from a policy, clinical, care delivery, benefits, or legal perspective highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the health insurance market and employer health benefits systems/strategies is required.
  • Proven ability to lead a performance-based organization with demonstrated success in developing strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to manage a high-performance team, achieve strategic objectives, manage a budget, and prioritize and maximize the impact of limited resources.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to listen to as well as educate and engage diverse constituencies.
  • Experience in working effectively with a Board of Directors.
