Resources for Independence Central Valley is Hiring a Work Readiness Independent Living Specialist Near Merced, CA

Resources for independence Central Valley is recruiting for the position of Work Readiness Independent Living Specialist (W.R.I.L.). This part-time, non-exempt position and is located in our Merced office. Travel is required in Merced and Madera Counties. This position will be up to 28 hours a week.

Description of Essential Duties:

The W.R.I.L. Specialist is under the supervision of the Program Manager and is responsible for assisting persons with disabilities referred from the Regional Center to receive appropriate services, which will prepare them for competitive employment. They are responsible for supporting consumers as they identify their goals related to work, develop a work readiness independent living plan and set goals, encourage consumers as they grow towards a greater independence. This includes assessment facilitation, case staffing, grassroots advocacy, and maintenance of required paperwork. Develop curriculum and presentations to be used to provide effective virtual and in-person training. Services will take place in the consumers home, in the community or at the RICV office. The successful candidate for this position will have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of products to complete tasks and assignments, and be able to function as a key member of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. AA Degree in Human Services or related field. Professional experience may be substituted for up to two years of the educational requirements.

2. Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail orientated with good verbal and written skills.

3. Energetic, reliable, flexible, open and willing to learn.

4. Work independently as well as part of a team.

3. Basic computer skills, operation of fax, copy, and TDD.

4. Experience working with people with disabilities is strongly desirable.

5. Ability to maintain a large number of consumer files.

6. Ability to cope with a moderate to high level of stress.

7. Must have own transportation or have ways of getting to sites required to accomplish training objectives.

8. Must have an understanding of commitment to the concepts and philosophy of independent living and self-determination of persons with disabilities.

9. Ability to effectively communicate with consumers and their family, staff, local, and state agencies, and public groups on advocacy issues affecting people with disabilities.
