TITLE: HealthyU Peer Associate

POSITION: Full-Time Non-Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Program Director of Healthy University

Summary:

The HealthyU Peer Associate will assist the HealthyU Program Director in implementing the goals of Healthy

University within the broader context of services to HIV clients of Nashville CARES. Peer Associate will be a generalist that will engage with various psychosocial groups within Healthy University. The Peer Associate will provide and support the provision of HIV education (including treatment adherence), interpersonal health education/support, HIV medical/social services systems navigation support,

social network assessment, and political and community advocacy statewide. Moreover, the Peer Associate may share his/her personal experiences/perspectives with clients/staff as well as external patient education events in the community, to help alleviate HIV stigma related issues and promote client empowerment within the provision of care to positively impact long-term health outcomes.

Specific Duties:

PROGRAM:

  • Provides support in planning, recruiting, scheduling, and implementing HealthyU activities.
  • Provides follow-up contact and program support for the Healthy University Program.
  • Provides education, skills training, support and follow-up to program’s clients on issues related to: advocacy living successfully with HIV, navigating medical/social services, HIV treatment adherence, sexual risk reduction, and overall health and wellness, through the implementation of IAMSTRONG, various psychosocial peer support groups and education Lunch/Learn events facilitated by various pharmaceutical community liaisons.
  • Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy and community advocacy.
  • Serves as a point of contact for HIV clients who are newly diagnosed and/or new to CARES service.
  • Attends/participates in peer volunteer training and/or meetings.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary support to other services departments, including client eligibility and psychosocial support activities, as requested with program director’s approval.
  • Ability to provide co-facilitation/facilitation of the groups when needed and after training if needed.
  • Serves as an effective team player with the Peer Team as well as the HealthyU staff team.
  • Completes all record keeping in ClientTrack according to assigned tasks.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current issues regarding HIV health and access including attending webinars, trainings, and lectures.
  • Maintains the office space with the Healthy University Team, including updating resources, creating a safe and appealing environment.

General Duties:

  • Adheres to project, agency, department and team policies and procedures.
  • Participates in projects, agency, department and team meetings, events, and strategic initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and agreed on by Healthy University Peer Associate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience desired.
  • Living with HIV is required.
  • Professional and/or volunteer experience working with HIV clients desired.
  • Ability to maintain flexible schedule; Evenings or weekends may be required for virtual groups.
  • Experience with computers, ClientTrack, EXCEL, WORD and databases asset..
  • One year of group facilitation preferred; Ability to facilitate virtual groups as an asset.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of issues affecting people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Driver’s license, clean DMV record, and automobile liability insurance required.
