TITLE: CTE Special Needs CoordinatorREPORTS TO: Dean of Special Services, in collaboration with CTE DirectorPOSITION SUMMARY: The Special Needs Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with students, instructors, administrators, and sending school case managers, with the purpose of supporting IEPs and 504s for individual students in career and technical education programs, as well as others who are determined to be in need of additional support, or meet the Vermont Agency of Education definition of special populations (see below). This position actively supports the cultivation and preservation of Lyndon Institute’s culture of belonging and inclusion. RESPONSIBILITIES:- Develop a supportive presence in each LI CTE program by establishing relationships with students, instructors, administrators, and sending school counterparts- Conduct observations of students on caseload to ensure:1. accommodations are being followed 2. instructors have support for academic and behavior challenges3. communicate progress and challenges with families- Coordinate team meetings with sending schools, students and families if: 1. attendance, grades, and behavior are not improving- Create a program folders for each instructor that includes:1. a roster of students with special needs2. student plans and a summary of identified accommodations (updating plans as needed)- Assist instructors in:1. interpreting and distilling important information from educational support plans 2. honoring confidentiality related to IEP and 504 plans- Admission process:1. attend IEP/504 meetings regarding appropriateness of placement for students interested in CTE programs (before application) at request of sending schools. 2. schedule and facilitate meetings with sending schools for IEP and 504 newly accepted with students and families in the spring semester before their first semester of a CTE program- Participate fully in:1. staff meetings and professional development2. quarterly meetings with the Statewide Special Needs Coordinators’ Workgroup3. Student and Teacher Support Team Meetings- Case Management Responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. - All other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Tools/Technology Requirements:a) Ability to utilize technology and operate computers and computer programs. Experience and knowledge of computerized database systems. 2. Physical and Mental Demands:a) Frequently required to stand; walk; sit. Occasional lifting or assisting with lifting, reaching with hands and arms.b) exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.c) and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.d) and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.3. Work Environment:a) Generally inside the school building.b) Noise level is mild to moderate.QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree- Licensed special educator in the State of Vermont with “CTE - Special Needs Coordinator” endorsement (or ability to obtain a provisional license)Special populations include:- Individuals with disabilities- Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including low income youth and adults; - Individuals preparing for non-traditional fields- Single parents, including single pregnant women - Out-of-workforce individuals- English learners- Homeless individuals- Youth who are in, or have aged out of, the foster care system- Youth with a parent who is a member of the armed forces and is on active duty.Source: https://education.vermont.gov/sites/aoe/files/documents/edu-cte-perkins-v-state-plan-summary-document-8-general-accountability-special-populations-provisions.pdf
