Midtown Veterinary Hospital is Hiring an Assistant Manager - Veterinary Hospital Near Palo Alto, CA

Midtown Veterinary Hospital is seeking a skilled veterinary assistant or RVT that is looking to pivot into the next chapter of their career! Midtown is a boutique veterinary hospital located in Palo Alto and the preferred center of veterinary excellence in Silicon Valley, CA. Our hospital boasts a modern and spacious facility that allows for increased efficiency in delivering wellness, preventative, and urgent care. We are a small team with 1 Veterinarian but we take pride in fostering a culture of exceptional teamwork and in creating positive experiences and relationships with our valued patients, clientele, and teammates.

Position Overview: The Assistant Manager is to assist the Hospital Manager in the management of the hospital, overseeing day-to-day operations within the hospital, providing direct feedback to staff, and to perform various duties including accounting, financial planning, budgeting, payroll, control and reporting systems and financial analyses. As well as ensuring that the team adheres to hospital policies, resolving customer complaints, leading the team and organizing the team schedule in the absence of the hospital manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Veterinary practice administration duties: creating operational plans, training of staff, ordering and stocking supplies and equipment, funds and resource management, data automation, staffing, safety and security, review/evaluation/analysis of the past performance of the practice and marketing the clinic
  • Implements office policies by establishing standards and procedures; measuring results against standards
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining sound financial control and reporting systems covering all operations; exercises necessary functional authority to ensure that control policies and procedures are followed. Ensures that appropriate accounting records are maintained on all assets, liabilities, and transactions
  • Follow up with unpaid balances from clients/staff. Ensures rescue group partners are keeping up with payments to their account monthly
  • Conducts regular troubleshooting inspections of all areas of the hospital and reports back to the Office Manager
  • Oversees Workers Compensation Injury Claims
  • Attends staff meetings and contributes ideas
  • Promotes teamwork by assisting in other departments in their daily responsibilities as needed
  • Participate in the interviewing/hiring process 

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • At least 1 year of leadership, customer service, and veterinary experience
  • RVT license preferred but not required
  • Inventory management experience 
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Problem-solving and resolution management
  • Staff management including: coaching, developing, and motivating staff 
  • Ability to work with upper management to gain best results
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to empathize and connect with clients
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate records
  • Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors

Available Schedule: Full-time position

  • We are open: M-F 9am-6pm
  • Saturdays 10am-7pm
  • Closed Sundays
