Franchise Dealership is Hiring an Automotive Service Manager Near Chicago, IL

Horizon Equity Group is looking for a qualified Service Manager for a Franchise dealer located outside Chicago, IL. We are looking for someone who demonstrates integrity, transparency, professionalism, and teamwork while working in a fast-paced and high-volume environment. Our Dealer offers great benefits and pay along with ongoing training and support.

Job Description:

The Service Manager is responsible for operating the dealership’s service department at maximum production while controlling costs, building a loyal clientele, maintaining good employee relationships, setting and obtaining sales objectives and maintaining service records.

The Service Manager will oversee the service department, technicians, service advisors, service call center, detailers and service lane as well as motivate, train, and reward employees by creating a good work environment and properly managing the assets of the department.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with customers to encourage repeat referral business as well as sustain customer satisfaction index rating above that of manufacturer or dealership average
  • Supervise technicians and service personnel, planning and scheduling their duties, assigning work, and following up on completion of assignments
  • Evaluate performance and productivity of all service department personnel as well as ensure that proper service sales techniques are being used
  • Monitor staffing levels, compensation levels and department turnover
  • Maintain reporting systems required by management and manufacturer
  • Understand and comply with federal, state and local regulations that affect service and parts operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right-to-know act, etc.
  • Ensure store safety, including the use of and maintenance of safety equipment
  • Direct service department employees to follow safety policies and practices and ensure that any and all accidents are reported immediately
  • Manage equipment/hardware layout and positioning within the service department
  • Work with parts department as appropriate to ensure proper stocking of high use parts
  • Assist in development of annual service budget for use in connection with annual sales forecast
  • Ensure that all required technical publications, periodicals, bulletins, ect are obtained, kept up-to-date and properly maintained and proper inspections are being conducted
  • Collect accounts receivable for service work as well as quality check completed jobs
  • Obtain competitive bids on all tools, equipment, sublet repairs, supplies, ect
  • Meet with management regularly to review current service department performance, set future performance objectives, promotional activities or any other matters

Requirements:

  • Must have at least five years’ experience as a Service Manager
  • Must have more than two years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient knowledge of dealership computer systems
  • Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles
  • Previous industry knowledge of overall operations, management and wholesale relations (preferred)
  • Understand and stay abreast of all federal, state, and local regulations that affect operations
  • Must be professional and hardworking, as well as exhibit strong communication skills to work with customers, employees and vendors
  • Ability to be analytical, problem solve and multi-task
  • Self-motivated enthusiastic presence in a team environment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Minimum High school diploma or the equivalent
  • All applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre-employment testing including but not limited to a background check, MVR and drug test

Salary based on experience.
