JOB TITLE
Production Associate
SUMMARY
Entry-level production positions, typically in either an assembly or robotic welding department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORK STYLES/VALUES
Knowledge:

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
Skills/Abilities:
  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Installation - Installing parts to meet specifications.
  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Visualization - The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
  • Finger Dexterity - The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

TASKS AND ACTIVITIES
Occupation Specific Tasks:
  • Assembly
    • Assemble parts or units, and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, sub-assemblies, or frames, using
    • hand tools and power tools.
    • Clean and lubricate parts and sub-assemblies.
    • Connect cables and tubes according to specifications.
    • Disassemble units to replace parts or to put on racks for shipping
    • Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot-face bolt holes in parts, using drill presses and portable power drills.
    • Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order
    • requirements.
    • Measure parts to determine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers,
    • and verniers.
    • Operate or tend automated assembling equipment, such as fixed automation equipment.
    • Operate lift assist to transport or position large parts.
    • Pack or fold insulation between small parts.
    • Position, align, and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly.
    • Generalized Work Activities:
    • Handling and Moving Objects - Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
    • Controlling Machines and Processes - Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).
    • Inspecting Equipment or Material - Inspecting equipment or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Robotic Welding
    • Clean and adjust equipment to maintain efficient operation, using air hoses, cleaning fluids, and hand tools.
    • Conduct trial runs before welding; make necessary adjustments to equipment.
    • Correct problems by adjusting controls, or by stopping machines and opening holding devices.
    • Dress electrodes, using tip dressers, files, emery cloths, or dressing wheels.
    • Fill hoppers and position spouts to direct flow of flux, or manually brush flux onto seams of work pieces.
    • Inspect, measure, or test completed metal work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring
    • and testing devices.
    • Load or feed work pieces into welding fixtures.
    • Start, monitor, and adjust robotic welding production lines.
    • Inform Lead of any abnormalities in their machine operations.

Generalized Work Activities:

  • Handling and Moving Objects - Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes - Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).
  • Inspecting Equipment or Material - Inspecting equipment or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Detailed Work Activities:
  • Mark identification onto products or containers.
  • Examine products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, or disassemble manufactured products by hand.
  • Make independent judgment in assembly procedures.
  • Count products or materials.
  • Package goods for shipment or storage.
  • Perform safety inspections in manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Read work instructions for assembly of products.
  • Test manufactured products or materials.
  • Use hand or power tools.
  • Use precision measuring tools or equipment.
