Consumer Technology Association is Hiring an International Standards Programs Intern Near Arlington, VA

Full-Time/Long-term Internship
Hours Per Week: ~35 hours/week. (8am-4pm or 9am-5pm) Hours may vary depending on the candidate's schedule and department needs.
Approximate Duration: May 2024 - Early/Mid 2025 (Our internships can last up to 11 months from start date.)
Hybrid work schedule: Work 2-3 days in the office (Tues, Weds. and/or Thursday) and the rest remote. Core in-office days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Basic Function of the Position:
Provides administrative support for international standards activities at CTA. This is a non-exempt position.
Critical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support for Staff VP, Standards Programs/President US National Committee of IEC, including general office and administrative functions, maintaining department records and documents, basic research and database maintenance, writing correspondence and reports, email and action item tracking, calendar assistance, and other duties as assigned.
  • US Technical Advisory Group Secretariat for IEC TC 100 and IEC TC 124 - providing day to day administrative support for the two Technical Advisory Groups of the U.S. National Committee of the IEC. This includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Arrange USNC TAG meetings, timely preparation and distribution of documents related to the work of the USNC TAG, and maintenance of appropriate records, including USNC TAG rosters, minutes of meetings and voting results. Requires full electronic document handling and communication capability to meet USNC and IEC requirements.
    2. Distribution of IEC documents to USNC TAG members, identified interested parties, collection and correlation of comments, and preparation of suitable U.S. documents for transmission, through the USNC Office, to the IEC Central Office.
    3. Distribution of appropriate MT, PT, and WG documents to the USNC TAG for preparation of suitable comments for the Expert.
    4. Transmittal of U.S. positions on relevant IEC TC/SC/SyC issues and votes.
    5. Ensure compliance with USNC Model Operating Procedures, the USNC's Statutes and Rules of Procedure, as well as the IEC Directives.
    6. Meeting voting, balloting, document posting, and USNC deadlines.
    7. Review incoming IEC documents to determine deadlines, quality, alignment with experts, and to determine where editorial changes are needed. After gaining familiarity with content, review IEC documents for potential technical challenges.
  • Assist Staff VP with development of international standards. This can include transferring text to IEC templates, completing IEC forms, transferring comments to the appropriate forms, and review of standards in progress for grammar and English improvements.
  • Assign experts to appropriate working groups, maintenance teams, or project teams through the USNC Office.
  • Keep US TAGs acquainted with the work and the disposition of their recommendations, nominations, determinations, proposals, and positions.
  • Provide administrative and meeting planning support for IEC US TC meetings identified by Staff VP to be held in the US, to include registration, reports, meeting minutes, attendance tracking, and other administrative tasks. Some event travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work experience:
  • Work and/or internship experience in an office environment preferred.
Education/Training:
  • High school diploma required. College degree preferred.
Skills/Capabilities/Technical
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize and handle multiple projects with little supervision.
  • Ability to follow procedural guidance for international standardization.
  • Fluency in MS Office
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Association or standards experience a plus.
Additional Information:
  • PAID Internship.
  • May require travel to CES 2025 in Las Vegas (Early January).
