MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school and 3 to 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or building trades work. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record.
EMERGENCY DECLARATION STATUS

Code 1: Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident by incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment at the City's water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations and wells. Work involves performing preventive maintenance and repair work on tanks, pumps, motors and other equipment; and maintaining records of work performed and supplies consumed. Employee is also responsible for responding to after-hours calls in cases of sewer stoppage and pump or well failure, and assisting other work crews in various utility system construction and repair work, as necessary. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Superintendent.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Monitors performance of pumps and motors at City water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations and deep water wells, performing preventive maintenance such as lubricating and adjusting equipment as scheduled.
Overhauls and repairs pumps, valves, fittings, motors and other electrical and mechanical equipment, as necessary; inspects, adjusts and/or replaces units and parts, as necessary.
Maintains logs and records of preventive maintenance and repair work performed, and of supplies and materials requisitioned and consumed.
Responds to after-hours calls to repair or alleviate sewage stoppages, pump failures, well failures, etc.
Responsible for all facility maintenance to include building irrigation systems, plumbing and electrical repairs.
May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays. May be required to respond to after hour calls.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs various construction and/or maintenance work to assist Department Electrician or other personnel in a variety of general construction, maintenance or repair work.
Performs other related work as required.

Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with life insurance in the amount of one time their annual base salary at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost up to the Guaranteed Issue amount of $250,000.
Dependent/Spouse Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with dependent/spouse life insurance in the amount of $5,000 per dependent at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost.
Short Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's annual base salary during a short-term disability period not to exceed 26 weeks.
Long Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's salary at time of disability after a 180 consecutive day waiting period.
Defined Contribution Retirement Plan: City contributes a base of 3%. Employees may contribute up to 6% and the City will match the employees contribution.
Holidays: 10 holidays,1 birthday holiday and 1 anniversary holiday.
Paid Leave: Accrue 96 hours of vacation per year, accrued hours increase after 5 years of service based on years of service. Accrue 96 hours of sick leave per year.
Tuition Reimbursement: Upon completion of the initial probationary period, employees are eligible for tuition and book reimbursement for college level courses for Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. (Currently frozen due to budget)
