Children who enter into CHAIL’s residential programs are in need of clinical treatment. While Youth Care Specialists are not required to have a therapeutic background, they must demonstrate the ability to bring a therapeutic and empathetic approach to their interaction with clients.

About the position:

This position requires a current Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Special Education (PK-Age 21) (LBS1) or School Support Personnel with a supervisory endorsement.

The IEP Case Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) by overseeing their execution with fidelity. This involves adherence to all state and federal timelines and protocols, writing comprehensive IEPs to facilitate student growth and development, and utilizing data-driven decision-making processes. The Case Manager provides professional development to enhance the skills of the IEP team members and ensures that plans cater to the holistic development of students across various domains.

Job Function:

  • Develop and maintain a yearly meeting schedule to ensure 100% compliance with special education due dates and timelines.
  • Proactively communicate with staff members to ensure readiness for all IEP deadlines.
  • Schedule, complete, and document all required parent communication in preparation for IEP meetings, complying with state and federal laws.
  • Lead IEP meetings as a crucial member of the IEP team.
  • Support school teams in collecting and organizing data for all services outlined in the IEPs.
  • Review all IEPs for quality, providing constructive feedback and professional development to teaching staff regarding IEP writing.
  • Lead the team in crafting appropriate transition plans and behavior plans for students as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the school team to develop schedules conducive to student success and inclusion.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and district personnel.
  • Demonstrate understanding of individual needs of students with disabilities from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ensure comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the delivery of special education and related services.
  • Utilize intervention and assessment strategies effectively.
  • Establish and nurture effective working relationships with various stakeholders including administrators, staff, students, parents, governmental and community agencies, and employers.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills, data-driven decision-making, and clear communication to multiple stakeholders.
  • Exhibit expertise in consensus building, problem-solving, and possess strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within the IEP team.
  • Exhibit maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children, staff, and families served.
  • Possess knowledge of childhood trauma and its implications.
  • Demonstrate strong organization, record-keeping, and assessment skills.
  • Handle job-related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner.
  • Proficiently use computer technology to facilitate job responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a Master’s degree in Educational Administration.
  • Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Special Education (PK-Age 21) (LBS1) or School Support Personnel with a supervisory endorsement.
  • Two or more years of experience in special education.
  • Expertise in special education curriculum and service provision and knowledge of general education curriculum.
  • Detailed understanding of special education laws, regulations, and protocols.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills in leading IEP meetings and providing professional development.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and using data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Ability to navigate complex situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch. Must be physically able to initiate or assist in physical restraints. Physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job-related problems and stress.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Environmental: Mainly indoor, school environment conditions; indoor air quality is good, and temperature is controlled.
  • Noise Environment: Mostly moderate noise such as in a typical school setting.
  • Equipment Used: Must provide own vehicle, valid Illinois driver license and proof of full insurance coverage.
