Ballet Arizona is Hiring a Teaching Artist Near Chandler, AZ

Job Description

Summary/objective

The Teaching Artist is an ideal part-time position for someone balancing a variety of teaching jobs or other part-time work. The position teaches Community Engagement Curriculum in the after-school and community settings for variety of programs. Candidates must be comfortable teaching ballet in the after-school setting in non-traditional dance spaces. The position has an hourly rate, plus a travel stipend and paid training. The position reports to the Community Engagement Manager and may work directly with other department staff and Teaching Artists. Teaching Artists will work offsite from the Ballet Arizona studios and will work with students of a variety of ages, experience, abilities, and backgrounds. Currently seeking three different artist for the following locations and time, Central Phoenix in the 2024 Fall Season, Chandler in the 2024 Fall Season, and Chandler to begin training in October 2024 to teach for January 2025.

  • Teach and/or assist with ballet classes for diverse ages and abilities, including in classes that take place non-traditional dance spaces including but not limited to DanceAZ, Creative Aging, classroom visits, and residencies

· Implement program curriculum

· Plan weekly instruction

· Provide direct instruction to all participants that is in line with the spirit of the program, age specific, inclusive, and developmentally and culturally appropriate

· Support Community Engagement programs on and off-site under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager

· Maintain positive relations with existing community partners

· Maintain polite and professional communication

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work environment

· Applicants must be able to commit to teaching during the afterschool time frame, at least two days per week, ideally for the duration of the school year (late Aug-Nov; Jan-early Mar).

  • Work is conducted primarily in a classroom, multi-purpose room, and dance studio settings. Event support at the main office location and at external event sites is required.
  • Some weekends, nights, or substitute teaching opportunities are required.

Physical demands

  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods of time and some computer usage.
  • Significant physical effort is required – must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Travel required

  • Travel to and from external event sites (within Maricopa County) is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from the office, program, and partner sites on a regular basis.

Education and experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of Classical Ballet
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish desirable
  • Background in dance, experience teaching dance (in public schools or non-traditional settings preferred), or formal education in dance/dance education

· Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

· Applicants must have or be able to obtain Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance.
