Summary:
The American Institute for Economic Research educates Americans on the value of personal freedom, free enterprise, property rights, limited government, and sound money. AIER's ongoing scientific research demonstrates the importance of these principles in advancing peace, prosperity, and human progress.
The primary goal for AIER's Bastiat Society program is to educate and support a growing network of individuals committed to advancing individual freedom, free enterprise, sound money, free trade, and limited government. Our Bastiat Chapters are designed to bring these ideas to people around the United States and the world and empower them to make a difference in their community. These programs occur both on AIER's campus and with various local groups across a variety of cities.
The Executive Director - Bastiat Society is responsible for the strategic vision of the Bastiat Society. This includes developing and driving strategies for expansion and ensuring overall program quality. The Executive Director will oversee the Deputy Director, and together they will ensure the success and quality of the Bastiat Society. The employee should have an entrepreneurial drive, be independent, thrive under pressure, like helping others succeed, and have a personal dedication to AIER's mission.
Location: Great Barrington, MA Office or Remote
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategic development and execution of AIER's Bastiat Society, ensuring it meets AIER's overall strategic goals.
  • Create business plans for achieving goals and objectives.
  • Manage the administration of chapter activities, programs, and events, including budgeting, planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Actively promote member engagement and participation, leveraging both AIER's established marketing strategies and personalized outreach efforts.
  • Represent AIER and the Bastiat Society at both internal and external events and meetings to increase visibility and brand credibility.
  • Develop strategic partnerships to further increase awareness and broaden the scope of our programs.
  • Develop appropriate metrics to measure growth, success, and costs, reporting regularly to AIER's President and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage an operational budget, ensuring optimal allocation and utilization of resources.
  • Collaborate closely with department heads, staff, and volunteers, leading initiatives to enhance chapter performance and effectiveness.
  • Support development goals for Bastiat Society programming and other AIER priorities.
  • Ensure events meet AIER's standards and engagement objectives. Drive improvements in event planning, information gathering, and marketing to promote meaningful attendance.
  • Coordinate with other departments to streamline processes for chapter reimbursements, grants, and donations, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Build and lead an effective team that is dedicated to fulfilling the organization's mission.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and a collaborative spirit, managing and refining processes across functions to foster continual organizational improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
This position requires travel within the U.S., comprising up to 25% of the role.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Strong experience in public relations, marketing, and fundraising, with a proven track record of success.
  • Solid experience in recruiting, leading, and managing staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Demonstrated competencies in ensuring accountability and enhancing team effectiveness.
  • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of the Bastiat Society.
  • Motivated, positive, and results oriented.
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills, flexibility, and professional confidence.
  • Strong project management and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized, with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of envisioning the big picture while maintaining a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, coupled with the ability to work independently within a larger organizational framework.
  • Ability to develop budgets and reconcile expenses.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, email marketing services, and social networking sites.
  • Non-profit industry experience is preferred but not required. Development and/or grassroots management experience preferred but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift and transport program materials (up to 20 pounds) within the office environment as well as to event sites; remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; frequently move around the office and between offices; constantly operate a computer and computer printer; frequently adjust focus for close vision work. The employee must be able to communicate both in writing and orally to various audiences, in person, by telephone and video.
The employee will work in a private, home, or shared office environment. Domestic travel will be required. The employee must have a capacity to participate in setting up events and provide general support to other team members.
