Title: Part-time ESL Paraprofessional
Reports to: School Principal / Special Populations Director Primary
Job Goal: Support ESL students in the classroom
Terms: 10 Month Calendar, 27.5 hours per week
Qualifications: Minimum of an associates degree or 48 hours of college credit (or willingness to take paraprofessional Praxis), Bilingual
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties to be carried out by ESL paraprofessionals):
1. Small group direct instruction and prescribed interventions as needed.
2. Title III intervention and compliance paperwork.
3. Pull-out of individual students or small groups for additional screenings, assistance, or support during regular classroom instruction.
4. Student support and assistance during regular education class time, under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
5. Chart individual progress of students under the direction and supervision of the teacher
6. Prepare instructional materials under the leadership of the certified teacher
7. Other duties assigned by team leader/instructional coach/administrators.
8. Supervise and assist students when included in general education classes and accompany students during any community experiences as needed
9. Exhibit professionalism, integrity, and honesty at all times with all stakeholders
10. Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities Note: Unless instructed otherwise by the supervising teacher, all parent communication must come directly from certified personnel
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bilingual
● Must be able to report to work on time and to perform the duties of the job for the entire workday
● Must be able to establish and maintain an effective and collaborative working relationship with other employees and to effectively communicate with the public
● Must be energetic, teachable, patient, and enthusiastic about ESL student learners and their progress
● Must be willing to work with students of varying academic, language, and social abilities
● Must have emotional coping skills appropriate for the management of student behavior
NOTE: Applicants may be asked to serve in any grade K-12 and may be asked to work in any of the 4 schools (elementary, intermediate, middle, or high school) within the Alcoa City Schools district. Applications are submitted based on individual preference but understand that placement may be changed at any time
