Description

The York Street Project, Jersey City, New Jersey is currently seeking a seasoned, organized, take-charge development professional to work with the Director of Development in executing the organization's fundraising donor programs/events and communications strategies.

Founded in 1989, by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, The York Street Project is a not-for-profit 501c3 social service organization whose overarching mission is to weave innovative programs together that shelter, feed, educate and promote the healing and independence of persons in need, especially women, children and families. The Project is composed of multiple interrelated programs, including a child development center, a transitional housing program, emergency shelter for homeless families, and an affordable housing residence.

The work environment is collaborative and empowering for both staff and program participants with a major focus on educational, economic, and human development of the women, children, and families of York Street Project.

Responsibilities:

Donor Communications

  • Works closely with the Development Director to ensure continuous outreach to donors through the website, social media, and all other electronic communications
  • Initiate communication activities with donors and assist with maintaining the donor database
  • Communications-related responsibilities include: development and support of the electronic pitch deck and other marketing materials, print materials, electronic updates/newsletters, updating the YSP website, and social media (Facebook, Instagram, linked-in, etc.)
  • Staging Press Events & Press Tours

Donor Program/Events

  • Coordinate and execute all logistics and planning for all events (in-person and virtual): Golf Outing, Evening Under the Stars, Donor Events, Annual Gala, and Women's Event, etc.
  • Reconcile all fundraising event reports and data entry of donor event activity
  • Complete writing projects pertaining to events: such as thank you letters, emails, cover letters and notes
  • Acts as liaison to donor groups (Professional Council, Hope Builders sustainer program, etc)

Requirements

  • Must believe in the mission of breaking the cycle of poverty for women, children, and families
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising is required
  • A strong background in the area of marketing and social media is required
  • Highly proficient writing, editing, and visual communications skills required
  • Consistent attention to detail, prompt follow-through, and commitment to high quality output
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required, as are a commitment to customer service and the ability to deal effectively with internal and external constituencies
  • Working relationships with press and/or experience working with press and staging press events a plus
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail, superior organizational skills, and an ability to handle multiple tasks, deadlines and changing priorities with good judgment
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and open to occasional evening and weekend hours
  • A thorough understanding of database management, gift processing and donor relations
  • Strong tech/web/design skills: Google suite, Wordpress,, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Must be a flexible, enthusiastic with the ability to work independently, as well as, collaboratively on a team
