WORLD COUNCIL OF CREDIT UNIONS is Hiring a Project Accountant (Bilingual-Spanish) Near Washington, DC

Job Description
This position is responsible for the accounting for specific donor-funded projects of the organization. In addition, Project Accountants coordinate and/or assist with special projects, such as cost proposals, budget modifications, field audits and donor audits.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for all aspects of accounting for donor projects including:
  • Managing the assigned portfolio of grants and contracts from proposal to close-out, including preparation of SF-424 forms.
  • Reviewing project submissions for accuracy and allowability, verifying foreign exchange and tax rate calculations and recording expenditures into corporate accounting software.
  • Researching applicable laws, donor guidelines, and internal policies to determine allowability and reasonableness of project expenditures.
  • Reconciling project advance accounts, local bank accounts, cash and balance sheets.
  • Reviewing and verifying monthly allowance schedules for project employees.
  • Preparing accurate financial reports for timely submission to donors in compliance with the financial reporting requirements of the donor.
  • Uploading final award budgets into the accounting system, Acumatica, and managing budget revisions from time to time.
  • Working directly with overseas finance directors/managers and HQ program staff to ensure accurate accounting on awards.
  • Providing budget support for departments during the annual budget process.
  • Playing the role of virtual "team leader" in working with the finance team at the field offices.
  • Contributing to the building of international relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Monitoring spending in relation to budgets within donor specific line-item flexibility.
  • Ensuring full compliance with donor regulations and stipulations.
  • Providing guidance to field offices on contractual and accounting matters.
  • Keeping track of audit requirements and supporting field offices as needed during audits.
  • Preparing project forecasts (life-of-project) to assist project management and for annual budget purposes.
  • Supporting the capacity-building activities for the field offices.
  • Reconciling and preparing quarterly USAID 425 donor reports .
  • Assisting with preparation of annual audit schedules and financial statements.
  • Assisting/coordinating schedules for special audits, such as with donors or regulatory agencies.
Assisting in maintaining department accounting procedures
Experience and Skills
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent education and work experience. A minimum of three years of experience in a nonprofit organization, OMB Circulars, Uniform Guidelines and/or donor grants is preferred.
Language Skills : Fluency in English and Spanish oral and written skills are required.
Mathematic Skills : Advanced accounting skills including the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Skills : High ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills : Intermediate- to high-level computer skills with Excel spreadsheet, word-processing and accounting software systems and advanced 10-key operation.
