Phoenix Manufacturing is Hiring a Quality Receiving Inspector Near Enfield, CT

Position Summary:

The Receiving Inspector will serve the Quality Department taking on a dynamic approach to inspecting and evaluating parts for incoming acceptability. The Receiving Inspector acts as a safeguard to confirm that high quality products meet and/or exceed customer requirements, ensuring that Phoenix Manufacturing, Inc.’s flight critical aerospace components are delivered to specifications. Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Inspect independently, with a high level of integrity, both receiving and incoming materials; including but not limited to
  • certification review, material verifications, visual inspection for compliance, and damage from outside suppliers.
  • Ensure that standard procedures are followed in all aspects of work, ensuring documentation is accurate and complete (i.e., Traveler Sign-off).
  • Verify certification of received goods meets published customer and industry standards for raw material properties. Additionally serves as back up to verify receipt of outside services such as heat treatment, coatings, non-destructive (NDT) tests or other special processes.
  • Receive material against the open Purchase Order into the EPICOR ERP system. Serve as back up to receive goods from special processing. Verify delivered quantity and specifications match PO quantity and specifications.
  • ·Label material type, lot and heat code upon receipt and move to an inventory warehouse location. Record lot and warehouse locations in the ERP system.
  • ·Perform routine cycle counts and audit to maintain inventory accuracy. Support cycling counting in other shipping and receiving areas such as finish goods or work in process.
  • Inspect parts independently with a high level of integrity to verify product conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Utilize X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy to determine the elemental composition of incoming materials. Handheld the XRF Gun for analysis of quantitative/qualitative measurements and record results.
  • Perform tests on metal objects to determine their degree of hardness, using hardness testing equipment: per specifications and manufacturer requirements. Read hardness number from calibrated scale on equipment or converts scale reading to hardness number, using formula or conversion chart.
  • Work from shop routers, operation sheets, blueprints, and other specifications to ensure that all manufactured parts or materials are in full compliance.
  • Regular verbal or written communication to internal stakeholders utilizing both electronic and analog systems.
  • Utilization of office machines including copiers, scanners, phone systems, computers (including email), and other standard equipment.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment with Manufacturing, Operations, and Production Control.
  • Participate in the operation of and compliance with all safety, hazardous material handling, and disposal requirements in accordance with government regulations and company procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with all internal, customer and government regulations.
  • Interconnect with the Production/Shop Floor management personnel on quality issues and corrective actions, as required.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e., shoes, eyewear, gloves, masks, shields, and coats) if needed.
  • Maintains positive, team relationship with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.
  • Assist with other Inspection Department functions, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Education required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Manufacturing and Quality Control experience in Aerospace or other complex manufacturing industry with exacting/demanding requirements.
  • Preferred CMM Operator using Mitutoyo proficient with PC-DMIS, mCOSMO, or Calypso.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, reading blueprints and the ability to interpret them accurately.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes; responds with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience using lean manufacturing principles and problem-solving methodology.
  • Experience working in AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel) or related software.
  • Proficient with ERP systems (Global Shop).
  • Understanding of common industry specifications (material, coating/plating, NDT, etc.)
  • Understanding of complex aerospace blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.
  • Ability to use a variety of Measuring and Test equipment such as Bore gages, Profilometers, Height gages, Micrometers and Optical Comparators.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions, work from sketches, and use simple measuring instruments such as tape measures, micrometers, and vernier gauges.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, internally and externally.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Position requires sitting for extended periods of time and repetitive data entry. Ability to access all areas of the facility.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Phoenix Manufacturing’s Quality Assurance Manual requires that all individuals performing product verification & visual inspections, DQR (source inspection activities) and/or NDT visual inspections must be qualified technically and visually. These persons have passed appropriate eye examinations administered by a medically qualified/trained person. Eye exams are done in accordance with Quality Policy Manual Section 7.2. For individuals who do not meet vision requirements, their supervisor will review their job assignment and determine if vision requirements are needed to determine product conformance, which is then documented and available upon request.

Work Environment:

This job operates in both a professional office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The pace is rapid and dynamic, multi-task oriented with short notice/changing deadlines. Accuracy and thoroughness/follow-through is very important. Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
