About Us

Middle Way House is dedicated to providing immediate, trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Our Crisis Intervention Program offers a range of services, including a 24/7 helpline, on-scene advocacy, and support groups, ensuring survivors receive the care and empowerment they deserve. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking (ICESAHT) and the Indiana Coalition to Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) to continually enhance and develop our programs.

About the RoleCrisis Intervention Specialists are responsible for responding to the needs and to provide emotional support for Rise tenants during the evening and weekend hours.

Major Job Activities

● Maintain building safety by monitoring the property on camera and during hourly building rounds

● Intervene as needed in the event of a personal/building related crisis

● Provide emotional support and resourcing to tenants

● Review security video and take appropriate notes

● Answer phone and doors and forward messages to the appropriate people

● Perform light house-keeping duties as assigned

● Updating necessary documents

● Enforce our safety related building policies

● Accompany tenants to the Resource Room/Food Pantry

Role Requirements

● Understanding of the dynamics of violence and the impact it has on families

● Familiarity with trauma informed intersectional approaches to human services and anti-oppression theories and frameworks, including an understanding of incarceration, addiction, and recovery

● Must be highly reliable for onsite, in person scheduled shifts.

● Excellent communication skills (shares context, asks clarifying questions), empathy, self-awareness, and demonstrated history of problem solving skills

● Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships while maintaining professional boundaries across lines of difference

● Proactive and passionate work ethic

● Commitment to ongoing cultural competency training and continued education

● Basic computer/database skills

● Knowledge of local community resources

● Experience supporting people in crisis, professionally or otherwise

Preferred/Desired

· Experience with survivors of various backgrounds and identities.

· Understanding of intersectional issues and program development.

· Fluency in languages such as ASL, Chinese, or Spanish.

· College Degree in Social Work, or related field.
