Middle School Associate

Position Type: Full Time (Exempt)

Position Summary: To provide dedicated pastoral leadership and oversight to middle school students of Shades, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of ministries dedicated to the reaching, teaching, shepherding, equipping, and care of middle school students in Birmingham.

Responsibilities:

• Lead Shades in all efforts aimed at reaching, discipling, and sending middle school students for the sake of the Gospel wherever they are and wherever God takes them.
• Stay informed on ever-changing middle school student culture. Seek continued growth in the student ministry by discovering new ways to reach students in the Birmingham area; expand the student ministry by modeling and encouraging Living Sent.
• Provide leadership and oversight to the recruitment, training, and shepherding of middle school ministry volunteer leaders and act as a primary relational figure for volunteer leadership.
• Provide pastoral counseling and direction to middle school students, parents, and leaders as needed and appropriate.
• Give direction and oversight for middle school ministry programs including Sunday groups, midweek services, and small group discipleship for students.
• Collaborate with student ministry team for planning and execution of student ministry camps, mission trips, Crave Weekend, and other student ministry events.
• Create strategy aimed at developing, investing in, and providing opportunities for middle school students to serve in the church and to grow in leadership development.
• Create Strategy around welcoming, engaging and follow-up of middle school students who are new to the Student Ministry at Shades.
• Act as the primary advocate and champion of middle school students to the church through creative promotion, collaboration with other ministries, and intentional opportunities for church member involvement in Student Ministries.
• Collaborate with the Kids Minister to develop and implement strategies that will facilitate intentional transitions between ministry areas.
• Attend regularly scheduled family ministry team meetings and All Team meetings as specified by leadership.
• Embrace the mission, values, and ministry strategy at Shades. .
• Perform other related duties that may benefit the church and/or the family ministry as directed by the Family Pastor or Executive Staff.
