POSITION TITLE: Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Family &Resident Services
STATUS: Non-Exempt
SALARY: $50,000, annually

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Coordinator provides vital case management to WHA residents
or voucher holders and assists in setting goals, removing barriers, and coordinating resources
that aid families in increasing earned income, reducing or eliminating dependence on public
assistance, and making progress towards self-sufficiency. The FSS Coordinator achieves this
through developing goals and a service plan, providing referrals, coaching, training, mentoring,
and encouragement, while holding clients accountable. The ideal candidate is results-oriented,
flexible, goal-driven, analytical, able to work with a diverse pool of clients, and able to think outside
of the box in order to increase participation and keep clients motivated and engaged. Bilingual
candidates (Spanish/English) are strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Identifies and recruits families to participate in the FSS program; sales and marketing skills

are welcomed and helpful.
2. Works with program participants to develop goals, a service plan, and strategies to assist the

participant family in achieving those goals.
3. Provides referrals to program participants for securing necessary services such as day care,

job training, education, etc. that may create barriers to self-sufficiency.
4. Meets regularly with participant families and service providers to ensure compliance with client

Contracts of Participation.
5. Develops partnerships with local social service agencies to expand opportunities to provide

program participants with essential services and support.
6. Monitors and analyzes client escrow accounts, as needed.
7. Assists in the development, coordination, and execution of life skills classes.
8. Works with job-seeking participants in applying to, interviewing for, and achieving

employment.
9. Reaches out to area employers to create opportunities for job pipelines for participants.

10. Holds clients accountable and keeps them motivated towards staying enrolled and active in
the program and in achieving their goals.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs similar job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
2. One to three years of experience as a direct provider of services to families/individuals.
3. Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates (able to speak, read, and write in both languages)

strongly preferred.
4. Knowledge of and familiarity with local social service agencies and programs.
5. Background in sales, marketing, motivational interviewing, and case management helpful.
6. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills; resourceful and able to think outside of the

box to minimize and remove barriers for clients.
7. Ability to manage a large caseload effectively, and consistently.
8. Strong interpersonal communication skills, professional and calm demeanor, and ability to

work with a diverse and challenging clientele.
9. Strong written and verbal communications skills.
10. Positive attitude; ability to set expectations, motivate others, and hold people accountable.
11. Ability to be relied upon to be available for work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to spend prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
2. Ability to spend occasional periods standing and walking, including climbing stairs, as well

as balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
3. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds with or without assistance and

with or without the use of devices and/or equipment to assist in the lifting effort.
4. Ability to bend, handle materials and tools or equipment, and reach with hands and/or arms.
5. Work may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation to a known disability.
