Job Summary:

The Director of Laboratory Services is a leadership position and has responsibility for the overall direction, supervision, instruction and evaluation of staff, processes and accreditations. The Director will work with the Histology and Mohs Supervisor to maximize lab efficiencies and workflow. In addition, the Director will assist the Medical Director and all of the physicians in maximize their workflow and efficiency. Perform departmental and clerical duties as necessary. 

Responsibilities:

· Collaborates with clinical leadership, pathology and histology to develop and maintain appropriate controls, policies, procedures and outcome monitoring mechanisms.

· Develops annual budget and oversees profit and loss for laboratory divisions.

· Research new equipment and material suppliers. 

· Assists business leaders with sales efforts and promotes new opportunities to improve financial outcomes through lab services. Analyzes profitability of new services in conjunction with financial team.

· Hires qualified personnel and ensures that laboratory staff are appropriately trained.

· Fosters a positive work environment, encouraging teamwork and professional development.

· Ensures laboratory divisions meet or exceed established operating goals, including but not limited to, quality testing and turnaround times.

· Ensures lab compliance with all CLIA, OSHA, and all regulatory bodies in the Histology Department

· Supervises the daily activities of histology and clinical lab personnel.

· Maintains professional and friendly atmosphere for patients and staff.

· Ensures maintenance of patient confidentiality.

· Keeps current on regulatory issues and all technical laboratory issues.

· Develops goals and provides appropriate accountability for their attainment.

· Observes all clinic policies and guidelines.

· All other duties as assigned. 

 Work Environment:

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clinic setting.

· Exposure to body fluids, tissues, histology and lab chemicals is expected in a laboratory environment.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: 

· Proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.

· Strong computer skills.

· Knowledge clinical laboratory services.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.

· Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize scheduling of work.

· Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

· Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.

Education and Experience:

· Minimum of 5-10 years’ previous leadership experience.

· Three years of related experience is required. Previous supervisory experience in a laboratory is required; Histology experience is preferred. General business acumen is highly desired.

· Bachelor's degree is required; MBA or Master’s Degree or related field preferred.
