Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle is Hiring a Youth Engagement Coordinator - Maritime Near Seattle, WA

JOB DESCRIPTION 
The Youth Engagement Coordinator – Maritime Program, shall provide career launch opportunities in maritime industries in the Puget Sound region for youth and young adults ages 16-24 years, with a particular focus on youth from overburdened communities and vulnerable populations. This position builds partnerships between maritime industry employers with career connected learning programs to evaluate the potential for placing interns in entry-level jobs in Puget Sound maritime industries. In collaboration with industry and workforce partners, the Youth Engagement Coordinator identifies core competencies and related skills necessary to place interns in such entry- level jobs, provides curricula and training programs for youth/young adults to learn those core competencies and skills, and upon completion of the program, provides placement in a 3-month Career Launch internship in an entry-level position that can lead to consideration for full-time employment by a maritime employer, with a stipend provided by the YMCL program. This program is intended to create more effective job training opportunities for young people in the maritime industry, preparing them to launch into careers immediately upon completion of the program. 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • 3 years’ experience working with Black, Indigenous, People of Color youth and/or young adults 
  • Creative and innovative thinking
  • Proven ability to build relationships and trust quickly
  • Ability to work with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including weekends when necessary, consistent with the demands of the students and families
  • Ability to work with “opportunity” or “at-risk” youth 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license 
ULMS Total Compensation 
** Most Benefits will take effect on the 1st of the month following a 60-day waiting period

Paid Time Off

WA State Paid Family & Medical Leave – 0.8% of salary - 100% employer-paid. 
Workers Compensation Coverage - $395.20 - $3,591.33 per year (depending on class code)
Taxes – 9.8% of salary
