Description
Job Summary:
Substitute teachers supply qualified classroom supervision in the absence of the regular teacher. Classroom operations should continue as normally as possible, so substitute teachers need to be capable classroom managers as well as Christian role models for students.
Role and Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to and honors Valley Christian's standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Substitute Guide
  • Demonstrate solid classroom management skills
  • Follow lesson plans created by the regular classroom teacher
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making
  • Follow all crisis management procedures in the event of an emergency or drill
  • Complete accurate attendance records and submit as required
  • Cover other teacher's classes as needed
  • Fill duties of the regular teacher as assigned
  • Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
  • Performs other related assigned duties
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others
  • Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school
  • Agree to uphold Valley Christian's Statement of Faith
  • Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
  • Must be proficient in English
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Must provide proper documentation for the I-9 form
  • Ability to multi-task with organization
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment, and to react with discretion under varying conditions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with students and other staff members
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Must have either a Bachelor's degree or a valid Arizona teaching certificate
Preferred Skills:
  • Prior experience as a classroom teacher or a substitute teacher preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
  • Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
  • Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
  • Work in noisy and crowded school environment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
  • Frequent walking throughout the campus
  • Work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairs
  • Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency
