Description
This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings for student tutors that may arise throughout the year.
This position may work up to 19.5 hours/week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Tutors provide one-to-one and small group tutoring to students in their subject area. In addition to tutoring, tutors are expected to maintain orderliness and decorum in their tutoring areas.
AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in area of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
Qualifications
Enrolled in at least 6 credits at CCC (enrollment requirement waived in summer term). Successful demonstration of competency in the subject area for which they will be tutoring through the following:
  • Completion of appropriate classes (as determined by CCC department chair of that subject area) with preferably an A.
  • Recommended for this position by a faculty member in the appropriate subject area

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Usual office working conditions. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of Learning Center Coordinators and/or Department Chair.
