Job Summary

The Arts Career Exploration Spotlight (ACES) Counselor supports the day-to-day operations of the Overture ACES Program in alignment with Overture’s Mission, Vision, and Values. This position will provide direct service and oversight of the day-to-day activities of middle and high school participants of the ACES Program. The position will coordinate in conjunction with the Overture ACES Program Manager. Will focus on developing relationships and engagement with student participants of diverse backgrounds and their families in the established career exploration program. The position will chaperone student participants at multiple art institutions and venues in and around the Madison area, maintain attendance records, engage and support students proactively during the course of the 3-week program, is responsible for the health and safety of students while participants are in the program, during program hours.

**PLEASE NOTE**

This Limited-Term Engagement begins June 3, 2024, and is expected to end on August 2, 2024. Work is expected to be performed in-person in various environments.

The standard work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM with a structure of M-Th (ACES program), Fri (planning day).

You must be available for the entirety of the program with some flexibility for personal appointments/needs and/or extenuating circumstances. These situations must be discussed with the E&I Program Manager in advance. You must be able to attend scheduled events specifically on the evenings of Tuesday, June 11th and Friday, July 26th.

This position is being offered at $21/hr. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist ACES Program team with all programmatic operational needs. 
  • Support administrative tasks before and during each program day; including: attendance rosters, distributing food for breakfast and lunch meals, maintain health and safety information, safely chaperoning student participants during travel to and from events and venues, contact venues and community partners to relay pertinent information.
  • Work collaboratively with other ACES counselors and ACES Program manager.
  • Foster relationships with ACES participants and staff to help create a safe, encouraging environment where participants feel comfortable taking risks and exploring arts careers opportunities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned which reasonably assist the implementation of the ACES Program and support the ACES team with operational needs.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform this job.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in education, social services, human services, or arts related field required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related professional, progressive experience working and advocating for diverse communities and direct experience with programming.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervising youth programs in community and/or educational settings. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor youth and young adults to grow personal and career capabilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance Overture’s equity impact and reputation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain relationships with key stakeholders and community partners.
  • Strong background in supporting youth in career and future planning preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational, facilitation and leadership skills.
  • Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations. 

Working Conditions

The requirements and conditions described below are representative of the general environment the employee is exposed to on a day-to-day basis while performing this job.

  • Primarily perform work in person model in indoor/outdoor spaces including but not limited to offices, performance venues, and art institutions.
  • Work with frequent interruption.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other related hardware/software.
