Direct Support Staff/Training Specialist Job Summary:

SUMMARY

The DSP - TS will report to Day Services Director and/or Day Services Assistant and at various times, the Outcomes Coordinator. They should demonstrate successful development and implementation of individual program planning. In addition, coordinate production/subcontract aspect of the training program. Perform other duties as required by your supervisor.

DUTIES:

1. Adhere to schedule provided by supervisor, which encompasses his/her own work hours and the individuals and activities to supervise.

2. Drive vehicles as requested by supervisor

3. Assist in ensuring a safe working environment for all.

4. Participate in time studies as requested.

5. Ensure individual safety in fire/evacuation or medical emergencies.

6. Assist clients as needed in self-help and adult daily living skills as well as counsel and assist them in resolution of problems.

7. Participate in the Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Team process.

8. Implement individualized programs for clients.

9. Chart data for individualized programs, behaviors, seizures, and other information as requested.

10. Demonstrate working knowledge of the concept of normalization, least restrictive service, and our Agency’s mission daily.

11. Act as “manager” for a designated number of clients to ensure those individualized programs are properly carried out and maintain these records in compliance with Agency, State and Federal guidelines.

12. Assist in the development of individualized programs as appropriate for the needs and strengths of the individuals we serve.

13. Monitor individual’s progress in programs and reports to supervisor if the need for modification arises.

14. Attend all staffing and team meetings regarding the individual for whom they are serving as “manager”. Reports information at these meeting in a professional and organized manner.

15. Maintain working knowledge of the assessment instruments, which have evaluated the individuals for whom they are “managers” and displays knowledge of these individual’s current level in relationship to these evaluations.

16. Attends district wide inservice training as requested.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILTIES MAY INCLUDE:

a.) Assist with administration of client medication

b.) Complete client payroll forms

c.) Maintain accurate attendance

d.) Perform role of floor supervisor

-Conduct safety checks and fire drills and documenting such

-train staff in safety procedures

-Hold periodic and document safety meetings with all staff

-Assist with ensuring production deadlines are met

-Ensure necessary maintenance and repair of facilities in which operations are housed.

e.) Deal directly with area businesses in securing subcontract work for individuals

served.

-Coordinate subcontract work to be completed in a safe and timely manner

-Complete time studies and productivity levels on such subcontract work in

compliance with Agency, State and Federal standards.

-Draw upon available sources of Agency (Program Manager, Fiscal Manager, Executive Director) to complete duties

-Oversee production of contract work and accurate completion of daily production

sheet, client payroll, completion sheets and shipping and receiving records.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required
  • Valid Tennessee, Kentucky, or Alabama driver’s license
  • Ability to read and follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  • TB test within the last 12 months.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and clear driving record
  • Ability/availability to attend and pass all training course offered and required.
