Human Resources Benefits Specialist

Reports to: Benefits Manager, Human Resources

Position Purpose:

Responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits, leaves of absence, and KPERS retirement program.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associates Degree or higher is preferred.
  • Two years clerical office experience. Two years of Human Resource or related experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
  • Processes and administers all leave of absence requests and related changes.
  • Effectively interprets Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) implications as they relate to other federal regulations and the effect on benefits.
  • Enrolls employees into the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS).
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from supervisors and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollment, status changes, and other general inquiries.
  • Responds to KPERS inquiries from supervisors and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts.
  • Communicates effectively with payroll, other department staff, and all employees regarding benefits, leaves of absence and KPERS.
  • Responsible for open enrollment and retirement events sponsored by Human Resources.
