Title: Staff Resource & Behavioral Coach

Status: Salary

This position will be assigned to one or multiple of our 8 counties with travel being required.

SUMMARY

The Staff Resource & Behavior Coach is responsible for coaching staff for the implementation of the Positive Behavior Support Framework to fidelity and supporting the behavioral/social/emotional health of all children enrolled in assigned Head Start/Early Head Start Centers in the Mid-Cumberland Head Start/Early Head Start Program. The Staff Resource & Behavior Coach will be available for families to offer strategies/techniques and resources to support social skills and emotional wellness of children at school as well as at home.

SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB

  • Be familiar with the Head Start Performance Standards, Positive Behavior Support Framework, NAEYC and all program delivery systems, including Tennessee Division Human Services policies and procedures.
  • Establish comfortable respectful relationships with all staff, families and children.

· Assist and be available for site staff on a regular basis (i.e. up to 75% of time spent in classrooms).

· Conduct observations to create opportunities for discussion that would lead to incorporating new approaches into classroom practices.

· Provide feedback in a supportive, instructional and nonjudgmental way.

· Support staff through individualization of learning style and modeling best practices to develop support plans, with appropriate curriculum planning, in collaboration with staff to increase competence and development.

· Role model with the use of positive language, execution of a strategy, or guidance teachers may need to increase positive teacher child interactions.

· Coach staff with the implementation of the Positive Behavior Support Framework and ensuring that teachers are providing comprehensive, developmentally appropriate strategies to support the Mental Health, Social & Emotional Development of all children that will increase positive climate.

· Work collaboratively with all staff and families to achieve positive child outcomes and serve as an advocate when necessary.

  • Provide teachers and parents with appropriate resources to expand their knowledge in supporting social

and emotional well-being of children (i.e. conferences, parent meetings, trainings, newsletters, home visits, calls).

· Work collaboratively with the Mental Health Disability & Behavior Coordinator.

· Complete, conducts, and manages special projects and assignments delegated to assist in the operation of the program.

· Assume role of the teacher during absence of teacher when necessary.

· Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.

· Attend and participate in meetings, work groups, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training and training conferences as assigned, which may include local, state, regional and national groups. This includes attending pre-service and in-service training.

· Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency. Submit necessary documents to Finance Department.

· Comply with Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency Policies and Procedures, all Head Start Performance Standards, and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Operations Manual, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards, CACFP, TN Department of Health, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.

· Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: B.A. or B.S in Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in training, psychology, behavior modification, early childhood, or related field.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requirements that must be satisfied prior to attaining Regular Employment Status and updated, as requested:

1. Proof of Degree or Certification and Experience Required to meet Qualification for position

2. The ability to obtain/maintain an annual Physical Exam

3. An annual TB Test

4. Child Abuse and Criminal Background Checks.

5. Negative Drug Screen

6. Two (2) Professional References and one (1) Personal Reference

7. Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

8. Proof of liability insurance on a personal vehicle in the amount of $25,000/$50,000/$25,000 prior to being hired.

Essential Physical and Mental Abilities:

These functions are performed on a regular basis unless otherwise specified.

3. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in English on a daily basis.

4. Ability to maintain a detailed recordkeeping system.

7. Ability and willingness to accept and follow through on recommendations for improvement as a result of performance appraisal, monitoring, self-assessment and daily supervision.

8. Ability to use technology and office equipment such as computer, e-mail, fax, voice mail, copiers, calculators, etc.

9. Ability to go up and down stairs and to carry miscellaneous items while on stairs to access classrooms, kitchens and play areas.

10. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.

11. Ability to provide children and co-workers with a safe and secure environment using visual and/or auditory senses.

12. Ability to model and participate in activities designed for 0 to 5-year old children, including repetitive bending, stooping, sitting on the floor, and sitting on child size chairs (10-12 inches high).

13. Ability to respond quickly, calmly and rationally in emergency situations.

14. Ability to respond quickly to the needs of families during program activities and in emergency situations.

15. Ability to tolerate standard cleaning solutions used in the childcare environment such as chlorine bleach.

Essential Functions Related to Working Conditions:

1. Ability to manage multiple tasks, frequent interruptions and changes of pace with professionalism and composure.

2. Ability to be flexible, able, and willing to work evenings and/or irregular hours as needed.

3. Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis to, but not limited to, local, state, and national destinations. Travel methods may include personal or agency vehicle, airplane, or train.

4. Ability to use own vehicle for work related activities when Agency vehicles are not available.

5. Ability to work and drive during periods of inclement weather.

6. Ability to effectively interact and work cooperatively as a team member with people from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

7. Ability to work in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, offices, kitchens, playgrounds, buses, classrooms, community rooms and home environments of families, all of which may not be air conditioned or heated.

8. Ability to work in a vehicle that may not be temperature controlled.

5. Document and report any signs of the following: child abuse and neglect, illness or accidents, or children and reports of families who appear to have special needs in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

6. Comply with Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency Confidentiality Policy assuring that the program, children, family and employee records and information are protected at all times.

7. Obtain a working knowledge of and comply with all Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Personnel Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.

8. Understand, accept, implement and promote Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Head Start/Early Head Start Mission Statement, program goals, philosophy, and objectives.
