Job Summary:

The IT Support Technician (ITST) is responsible for installing and maintaining computer and infrastructure hardware, software and supporting all associated end-users.

The ITST reports to the Director of IT (DIT). They perform installations, maintenance and repair work on any computer related equipment that supports the business from laptops, desktops, communications equipment (digital & IP phones), tablets (ex. iPad's), smart phones (ex. Blackberry's, iPhone's, Android's), printers, local area networks, wide area networks, any piece of computer related peripheral or software an end user would be using. An ITST technician has to perform the majority of the mentioned tasks while providing a high level of customer service to the user. Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure maximum access to and implementation of technology services and resources for the company.

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software

• Troubleshoot hardware, software and network operating system
• Be familiar with all hardware and software
• Be familiar with network operating system
• Provide orientation to new users of existing technology
• Train staff about potential uses of existing technology
• Train staff about new and potential use
• Provide individual training and support on request
• Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources

• Monitor and maintain technology to ensure maximum access

• Troubleshoot all technology issues
• Maintain log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance
• Provide network access to all staff
• Install workstations
• Connect and set up hardware
• Load all required software
• Provide and reset network accounts and passwords as directed
• Monitor factors of security as determined by DIT
• Input and maintain IP addresses
• Advise DIT of security breach and/or change in password or security status
• Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate
• Ensure hardware is stripped and secured before disposal

• Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

The incumbent should have proficient knowledge, or will be trained, within the following areas:

• Computer hardware and software systems and programs
• Computer networks, network administration and network installation
• Computer troubleshooting
• Computer viruses and security
• E-mail and internet programs
• An understanding of general agricultural and egg specific programs and operations

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands

• The ITST may spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The ITST will need to perform some lifting of computer equipment, supplies and materials from time to time. The ITST will need to be able to crawl in confined spaces, remain at elevated heights (i.e. catwalks or feed bins) and operate at all conditions where IT equipment may be present.

Environmental Conditions

• The ITST may have to manage a number of projects at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of other employees; will need excellent organizational and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks. The ITST may also operate within non-office environments that may require proper protection in the way of hairnets, safety glasses and skin coverings.

Sensory Demands

• Sensory demands include use of the computer, which may cause eyestrain and occasional headaches. Various locations may be noisy and busy making it difficult for the ITST to concentrate.

Mental Demands

• The ITST deals with a very stressful environment as many support requests stem from users who are frustrated and require immediate services. Most aspects of IT run on a 24/7 schedule, and maintenance, emergencies and other service requests may happen well-outside a typical 8-5 office schedule.

Travel Demands

• The ITST will not need to regularly travel, but irregular travel to sister locations may be required.
