Description

Primary Function

Drives a strengths-based service delivery approach that is grounded in an understanding of the impact of trauma, that emphasizes physical, mental, and emotional safety for youth, families, and staff, and that creates opportunities for individuals to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment through safe, trusting, and supportive relationships and interventions. Influences the approach across all Club sites of safety, trust, awareness, equity, empowerment, mutual collaboration, connection, and growth.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)

Leadership

  • Lead Clubs in prioritizing physical and emotional safety for youth families and staff in club policies, staff practices, and Club Programming.
  • Ensure Club uses transparent communication, has clear expectations, and works to create relationships rooted in trust.
  • Provide training and support to Club professionals on the impact of trauma.
  • Employsresponsive, culturally relevant programming and services for youth, families, staff, and communities.
  • Maximize resources available to support Club membership success.
  • Work in partnership with youth and teens, their families, the community and BGCT staff.

Strategic Planning

  • Serve as the subject-matter expert, leading the organization towards a trauma-informed model that includes:
    • Building Readiness
    • Trauma Aware
    • Trauma Responsive
    • Trauma-Informed
  • Develop, plan, and implement professional development and training strategies that foster a trauma-informed culture and establish a strengths-based service delivery approach that is grounded in an understanding of the impact of trauma, that emphasizes physical, mental, and emotional safety for youth, families, and staff.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement to be responsive to the needs of young people, families, and the community.

Resource Management

  • Ensure grant deliverables specific to vulnerable populations are achieved.
  • Employ sound fiscal management through the proper administration of funding.

Program Development

  • Design, implement, and oversee member support plans that cater to the unique needs of youth and teens facing adversity, fostering personal growth, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
  • Collaborate with team members to create a diverse range of programs and activities that are aligned with BGC pillars and support the success of Club member participation.
  • Develop trauma-informed Action Plans and trauma-informed goals guided by the Trauma-Informed Standards.
  • Develop a plan for a Trauma-Informed Learning Journey into Operations Orientation and Training Plans
  • Facilitate microlearning where needed to support club membership success and staff skillset development.
  • Analyzes Club Member incident reports to develop a response plan that minimizes the risk of reoccurrence and embraces member and staff success.
  • Lead effective, inclusive, and proactive support and transition planning for special populations.
  • Effective, timely, and accurate utilization of the membership management system.

Partnership Development

  • Foster a collaboration partnership with Washburn University to develop work plans for interns and practicum students that maximize trauma-informed standards and practices.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships for youth, families, and teens in special populations.
  • Identify opportunities for partnering with community agencies to support the organizations’ ability to become trauma-informed.
  • Identify opportunities for partnering with families and caregivers.
  • Engage in partnership and networking opportunities to position the organization as a trauma-informed leader and advocate.
  • Represents BGCT on Trauma Informed Network

Marketing & Public Relations

  • Raise awareness about BGCT through effective communication, positive public relations, and marketing efforts.
  • Propose policies and procedures that support the success of Club membership and the staff working front line charged with that success.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Create baseline through Trauma-Informed Diagnostic.
  • Complete Trauma Informed Specialist Certification.
  • Perform assignments and assist with special projects as directed by the supervisor.

  • Continuous Learning Building the capacity of staff is central to BGCT. The organization requires all staff to participate in annual professional development opportunities to cultivate youth development skills.
  • Safe Spaces Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCT is, and remains, an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Physical agility and strength to handle crises or emergencies, ensuring the safety of both staff and youth.
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Training and skills to manage crises effectively

Qualifications


Knowledge / Skills Required

  • Master’s degree in social work or related disciplines
  • A minimum of 4 years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization leading training, and inspiring an optimal Club experience for all youth and teens
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity while using reflective practices with a diverse population
  • Ability to work well with all levels of the organization, community stakeholders, and community partners and develop relationships with authenticity and trust
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Acceptable Kansas Motor Vehicle Records that meet BGCT’s insurance standards.
