$1000-$1500 per week plus room and board

Create villages within camp that campers enjoy and feel proud to be part of, ensuring that all camper needs are taken care of in a timely matter. Acts as main liaison with parents. Greets everyone by using names whenever possible. Extends thanks whenever appropriate. Makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values or the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To ensure that above all else, campers are safe and well supervised
• To assist in the implementation of staff training week.
• Contacts parents on consistent basis with updates on children as needed. Keep written records of all conversations.
• Works directly with campers in need of extra assistance, communicates with Executive Director on a regular basis on camper needs.
• Distributes and collects camper confidential forms to counseling staff before each session. Works with nursing and kitchen staff as needed to ensure all have needed information on campers in attendance.
• Leads assigned village in Gorham Games at the end of each session.
• To ensure all camper issues are handled in a timely and effective manner. To be proactive in forming relationships with campers and cabin groups. To conduct nightly visits to cabins.
• To ensure all parent communication is handled professionally in a timely manner.
• To be proactive in making the parents experience memorable.
• To maintain open lines of communication with all counseling staff with relation to camper issues and successes.
• To attend all assigned meals during working hours ensuring to interact with campers and staff.
• Attends all camp programs (evening programs, coliseum, etc) giving extra help to Village Heads or Counselors with campers of need of extra assistance.
• To play a lead role with check in and check out processes as assigned by Executive Director.
• Each evening provides security for camp from 9:00pm - 12:30am checking in staff and assists with any needs in camp. (Example plumbing problems, camper need, nurse need) then closes camp each night turning off lights, making sure all staff are in bed, etc.
• To be a consistent presence throughout area of responsibility, ensuring office time is kept to a minimum.
• To drive camp vehicles for camp programs whenever needed. To maintain a professional attitude at all times.
• Values camp supplies and keeps accurate inventory of all supplies within area ensuring program is always functional.
• Ensures all areas of camp are kept clean at all times by both leading and participating in regular cleaning duties including end of summer clean up.
• To make sure that all equipment is properly stored when not in use, including
• securing items that need to be locked up/removed from camper access. To promote the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
• To carry out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director to assure the overall success of the camp.
• Attends closing staff banquet.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have appropriate background and training in program area (to be determined by Executive Director)
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required; certifications must be valid/current before the first day of staff training and throughout the duration of your seasonal employment.
• Current certification in Waterfront Lifeguarding recommended.
• Full clean drivers’ license recommended.
• Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
• Excellent communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to lift and transport up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to visibly observe children.
• Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
• Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
• Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.
• Ability to reason, solve problems and make sound decisions even when distracted by noise and activity.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
• Observe and promote safety and security procedures.
