We are currently hiring a Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support the Medtronic research and development (R&D) site, manufacturing site, and Field Sales based in Memphis, TN. This is an onsite position and does not require travel.

A Day in the Life

In this exciting role as Senior EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies, programs, and systems to comply with Federal, State, and local EHS regulations as well as Company policies, strategies, initiatives and goals.

Major areas of emphasis include laboratory and industrial safety, machine safety and machine safeguarding, ionizing and nonionizing radiation safety, biosafety, chemical hygiene, and regulated waste management. You will monitor workplace safety risks and environmental impacts through observation of work processes, equipment, and the work habits of employees with emphasis on laboratory, manufacturing, and field sales environments.

Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to

• Identify and take corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers' health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers' safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.

• Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist.

• Provide or facilitate employee training and awareness on matters of environment, health, and safety.

• Conduct risk assessments for new equipment, new procedures or operations, facility renovation projects, and research protocols.

• Help develop, administer, and implement environmental, health, and safety programs in accordance with governmental requirements.

• Review and analyze safety and wellness documentation issued by regulatory agencies; collaborate with regulatory agencies to determine corrective action plans.

• Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public, and environmental impact.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required in a science technical field, including but not limited to: Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene and/or Safety.

• Minimum of 4 years of relevant EHS Governmental Compliance experience within Manufacturing / R&D setting, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant EHS Governmental Compliance experience within Manufacturing / R&D setting.

Nice to Have

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following skills, experiences, and certifications:

• Experience with EHS management systems and risk assessment.

• Professional certification or certification eligible (CSP, CIH, CHMM).

• Experience implementing an ionizing radiation exposure monitoring program.

• Experience supporting remote employees and/or field sales.

• Laboratory safety and chemical hygiene knowledge and experience.

• Knowledge of machine safeguarding and LOTO requirements.

• Knowledge of metal machining, additive manufacturing, and laser systems.

• Environmental sustainability knowledge.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
