Summary:

The position of Academic Success Advisor collaborates with campus and community partners to administer services that promote and sustain the success of students, and participates in the development and implementation of advising programs, strategies, and services. The Academic Success Advisor reports to the Registrar/Director of Student Success.
Responsibilities:

The Academic Success Advisor supports retention efforts by advising new students, providing academic coaching, and assisting with retention programming. This position plays a crucial role in fostering the academic and personal development of students by connecting them to appropriate campus resources, assisting the Disability Services Coordinator with accommodation requests, and helping plan and execute activities and programs related to Student Success.
Essential Duties:
  • Assist the Disability Service Coordinator by providing academic coaching to students with disabilities, support the reviewing and renewing accommodations processes, monitoring academic progress and referring to additional resources on campus and in the community.
  • Manages a new student advising schedule and caseload, providing comprehensive, individualized advising to incoming new students.
  • In collaboration with the Admissions, Student Success, Records, and Financial Aid, support new student orientation and other campus events.
  • Collaborate with campus and community stakeholders including CC employees, local employers, nonprofits, and government organizations.
  • Maintain accurate notes of students seen and duties performed; maintain appointment statistics and analyze data toward improvement of services and student outcomes
  • Provide additional retention support services including general studies advising, academic coaching, strong interest career exploration.
  • Support and assist team members in the execution of prospective and current student programming or services.
  • Serve the broader mission of the college and Student Services by serving on campus committees and attending student events.
Work Environment:

Typical work environment is an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal work day, however, occasional early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Due to busy seasons, there will be specific times of crucial availability when leave time may not be approved.
Physical Demands:

Employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required; less frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience providing customer service
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to various audiences
  • Ability to be an active listener and facilitate various personality style inventories
  • Ability to apply sound judgment to complex problem solving and decision making
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education, or similar field
  • Previous work experience in the areas of Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education or similar field
  • Previous work experience involving program planning and implementation
  • Certification in career coaching credentials such as Strong Interest Inventory or Clifton Strengths
  • Knowledge and understanding of the American with Disabilities Act (specifically Section 504) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and their application in post secondary education
