West Power Energy (WPE) is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, with a primary specialization in power generation, transmission, and distribution. West Power Energy strives to provide engineering services to public and private utility companies, consultants, and contractors taking part in the design and construction of power generation facilities, transmission lines, and substations, across the United States and Canada. We offer solutions from feasibility studies, full engineering design services to close out and preparation of as-built recordings.

Our Transmission Engineering team is looking for a Transmission Line Engineer to support our growing Transmission & Distribution practice in sunny California’s San Diego / Arcadia branch offices and additional locations across the US. This is a hybrid position, working 3 days in the office and 2 days from home office. The successful candidate will be involved in all facets of transmission line routing and design.

Job Description

The primary duties include:

• Routing and design of Transmission/Distribution lines utilizing Power Line Systems software, PLS-CADD

• Modeling existing lines and poles using PLS-CADD and PLS-Pole

• Develop design criteria/basis and specifications for the transmission and distribution line design and procurement of materials

• Develop project cost estimating and quality control reviews

• Should be familiar with industry codes and standards and have experience as the technical lead on projects

• Assist the Engineer of Record in preparing construction documents including plan and profile drawings, structure loading trees, and foundation and assembly drawings

• Assist the Engineer of Record in preparing specifications and project design criteria

• Provide construction support for transmission/distribution line project

• Additional responsibilities include providing instruction and guidance to less experienced staff members.

• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil / Electrical / related Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• Engineer In Training License
• Minimum three (3) years of related experience
• Experience in 69kV to 500kV line design and working knowledge and/or expertise in Power Line system-based programs (i.e., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, etc.)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Travel may be required up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

• California Professional Engineer license
• Minimum 4 years of transmission line design
• Field transmission construction experience
• PLS-Tower experience
• Underground line design experience
• Distribution design experience

This position's base salary range approximation is $100K - $140K, depending on numerous factors such as applicable experience, skills, knowledge, credentials, geographical location, etc.
