Import Logistics Specialist Job Description

The import logistics specialist is responsible for the handling of air and ocean import shipments, including following the compliance guidelines that are in place, preparing quotes and documents and service as needed. The right candidate will need to be enthusiastic, positive, and internally driven with a sense of urgency and “whatever-it-takes” attitude.

Import Logistics Specialist Responsibilities:

Handle day-to-day air or ocean import shipments.

Compare quotes from different freight forwarders.
Consolidate Shipments.

Guide shippers make bookings, organize and prepare documentation for customs and assist with customs clearance. Follow up with steamship lines updates, maintain daily reports for pending shipments
Ensure all required documents are received; send final documents to wherever and whoever needed.
Maintain shipment tracking, from origin to destination and update purchasers and other departments.

Work with receiving department arrange pick-ups, deliveries.
Work with freight forwarders to classify tariff.

Double check tariff invoice and correct it if necessary.

Double check freight invoice and send to accounts payable.

Qualifications

Import Logistics Specialist Requirements:

Knowledge of import freight forwarding with focus on air or ocean operations.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook
Commitment to excellent and effective communication and follow-up skills.
Practical problem solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work under time constraints using time management and organization skills, adjusting priorities based on workload or direction from customer or management
