Purpose of Role: The Import Logistics Specialist is responsible for supporting logistics activities in support of the import operations team and Ravago business units. In this role they will work to understand business needs and service provider capabilities in order to help shape the internal business processes of our import operations. Working closely with the Import Manager they will design, manage and implement logistics strategies that will provide more responsive services and models that provide for reduced costs. They will provide support to all Account Managers, Customer Service Representatives, Product Coordinators, Inventory Coordinators and Management for Ravago Americas import operations. They will also maintain and develop partner relationships with freight forwarder, transportation, and maritime providers. They will negotiate and execute transportation services for air shipments, LCL’s and containerized ocean cargo. Key Areas of Accountability: Obtain and manage short term and spot rates for ocean carriers and freight forwarders for existing lanes and new lanes as requested.Coordinate required volumes and needs with commercial management teams.Track and communicate short term and spot rates to all parties involved.Manage capacity and commitments with logistics service providers, ensuring optimal resource utilization taking into consideration the fluctuating nature of the commodities market.Understand and develop strategies that help align commercial needs with partner capabilities.Manage capacity and commitments with ocean carriers and freight forwarders, ensuring optimal resource utilization taking into consideration the fluctuating nature of the commodities market.Decide the most cost effective ocean carrier for the requested import shipments received from Purchasing teams.Decide the most cost effective logistics services for the requested import shipments and in coordination with the import operations team, execute the logistics plan by obtaining ocean bookings and securing transportation with ocean carriers, freight forwarders and transportation providers within the time constraints of the customer.Act as a direct contact for internal stakeholders such as Purchasing managers and their teams, keeping them informed of the shipment schedules and potential delays.Enable business continuity by promoting cross training with other members of the team.Periodically review import activities with business management to ensure expectations and service levels are being met.Communicate industry changes affecting import operations to all levels of the organizationProvide back up support/cross training to other functions within our department.All other duties as assigned ContactsInternal: Buyers, Product Coordinators, Product Managers, Segment managers and Directors, Import Specialists, Accounts Payable, Maritime Management External: Ocean Carriers, Freight Forwarders, Brokers, Overseas agents Knowledge/Education /Skills / ExperienceA four-year college degree and/or education and experience equivalent to be determined by Management Minimum of 4-6 years of related logistics experience is preferredExcellent written and verbal communication.
