Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh is Hiring a Kindergarten Aide Near Pittsburgh, PA

Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh -

Hillel Academy is a warm and welcoming school in which we strive to maintain a culture of respect and growth among our staff and student body. We are looking for dynamic, forward thinking individual, to serve as Kindergarten classroom teacher's assistant. This position will be in a religious setting. The teacher applying does not need to be Jewish or know Hebrew, but must be comfortable working in an environmnet where these subjects are being taught. The primary role of the aide is to help model good behavior and support students who need assistance. Teacher's assistants in this position will be expected to:


  • Implementing lesson plans designed by the leader teacher
  • Supports and instructs students on all subjects
  • Set up an clean up centers during transitions
  • Foster a feeling independence (modeling students to get their coats and boots, pack backpacks, etc)
  • Collect and organize homework folders or projects to go home
  • Assist students during recess or specials as assigned
  • Model appropriate behavior in the classroom

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Classroom Management: Maintain order and discipline in the classroom, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Follow Lesson Plans: Implement the lesson plans and instructions provided by the absent teacher, covering the planned curriculum and activities.
  • Supervise Students: Oversee the students' behavior, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the day.
  • Teaching: Deliver instruction as outlined in the lesson plans, including explaining concepts, answering questions, and providing guidance as needed.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible and adapt to unforeseen circumstances or changes in the schedule.
  • Maintain Records: Keep track of attendance, assignments, and any significant incidents that occur during the day.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with school staff, including administrators, teachers, and support staff, to address any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Encourage Engagement: Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities, discussions, and assignments.
  • Problem Solving: Address conflicts or behavioral issues as they arise, following school policies and procedures.
  • Assessment and Feedback: If required, provide assessment and feedback on student work or behavior to the regular teacher, as requested.
  • Classroom Environment: Ensure that the classroom is left in good order, with all materials and resources organized for the next day.
  • Professionalism: Conduct yourself in a professional manner and uphold the school's standards and code of conduct.
  • Safety: Be aware of and follow safety protocols and emergency procedures, including evacuation plans.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Be sensitive to the cultural and individual needs of the students, ensuring a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Instructional Support: Offer support to students who may need additional help or clarification on assignments.
  • Punctuality: Arrive on time and be prepared to take on the responsibilities for the day.
  • Familiarity with Classroom Technology: Be familiar with any technology used in the classroom, such as computers, projectors, and interactive whiteboards.
  • Follow School Policies: Adhere to school policies and procedures, including dress code and confidentiality.
  • Feedback: Provide feedback to the regular teacher about how the day went, including any challenges or notable achievements.
