The Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an Aquatics Program Manager to join our team! Under the general direction of the Recreation Superintendent, the Aquatics Program Manager will establish goals and objectives, and plan, develop, implement, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate all aquatic programs and opportunities across our aquatic facilities. This role involves leading the recruitment, certification, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of the Pima County Lifeguard team. Additionally, the manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of public swimming pools, including partnerships with aquatic agencies and stakeholders, managing eight (8) seasonal public swimming pools and one (1) year-round public swimming pool.
This position with rotating days to include weekends, and both day and evening hours, is in the Recreation Division of the Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department.

(1) A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public recreation administration, business management or a related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment, AND three (3) years of experience in the field of aquatics with increasing responsibility, which includes a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
OR:
(2) Five (5) years relevant experience (or combination of education and work experience) in the field of aquatics with increasing responsibility, which includes a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity
Licenses and Certificates: Current Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor certification required at the time of appointment. Starfish Institute Water Safety Instructor Trainer and American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification required within 12 months of hire date. Some positions may require Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification after appointment. Valid driver license is required at time of application.Valid AZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
Special Notice Items: Must be able to perform and execute the essential job functions of a Lifeguard I, Lifeguard II, and Lifeguard III as necessary to ensure pool safety and the effective service of the aquatics operation. As a condition of employment or continued employment, positions within this classification may be required to submit to a criminal history background check with state and federal agencies pursuant to A.R.S. 41-1750 and Public Law 92-544. Must be able to work independently at times with minimal supervision
