Job Description

The Lead CNC Lathe Machinist is responsible for supervising and coordinating processes and running all Lathe Machines, as well as executing the safe operation of all Lathe and Mill Machines, as well as executing the safe operation of the CNC machines and occasionally other machines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Education: High School Diploma. Additional certifications (CNC Mill/Lathe operation courses, etc.) are highly preferred.

· 5 years’ experience running CNC Mill/Lathe, including setups and programming are required

· Manage personnel, job priorities, scheduling, programming, maintenance and run for all Lathe and Mill machines

· Review Bills of Materials, Parts Orders and MFG lists daily to determine priorities based on manufacture and ship dates, as well as aggregate number of operations needed

· Together with Engineers and other Lead Machinists, schedule flow of jobs through production for optimal efficiency; monitor progress throughout the day to ensure standards for timeliness and production value are met

· Collaborate with engineers to improve parts, correct errors on prints and/or address other discrepancies; inform Engineers of any such discrepancies

· Seek out and drive improvements in tools and/or processes; implement change to benefit specific department as well as overall production operations

· Using basic geometry and mathematics, calculate values and write programs for CNC Lathe based on engineering blueprints

· Choose proper tooling based on parameters of each specific job; set up physical tooling and teach tools to run program

· Save frequently used programs and sequences to maximize efficiency; update saved programs when designs change

· Observe progress of machining, especially as it relates to parts with tight tolerances; watch simulations as needed to prevent errors in machining

· During machining of MFG parts or other parts requiring long machining times, perform work or maintenance on other machines

· Inspect finished work for accuracy

· Daily maintenance of machine and work area, including check of coolant and weigh lube levels, emptying chip barrel, disposal of scrap material, organization of tools and sweeping; other maintenance as scheduled

QUALIFICATIONS

· Attitude: Strong desire to succeed as part of a team; interest in contributing to a positive company culture; willingness to persist until the job is done right for the customer

· Administration and Management: Familiarity with business and management principles involved in strategic planning, production methods and coordination of people and resources

· Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints, drawings and models, and analyze such plans for proper machining

· Mechanical Skills: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance

· Math Skills: Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics and their applications. Good math skills will help operators understand complex instructions, how schematics work and make sure items are designed and built correctly

· Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture of parts

· Computer Skills: Ability to navigate and use a desktop computer, including internet browsers, email, ERP, word processing and spreadsheets

· Attention to Detail: Machine operators will work with precision equipment; being off by thousandths of an inch could be a critical error and keen attention to detail is required

· Stamina: Machine operators often work long hours doing repetitive movements
