Oakland Community College is Hiring a Student support specialist Near Southfield, MI

Summary of Purpose

Support and focus on student enrollment and retention initiatives at the college. This position will support and utilize college systems to communicate, analyze, and report enrollment and retention trends.

The employee is expected to work as a team player in a multicultural diverse working environment.

Typical Duties

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title.

It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required :

1. Work with the Dean of Enrollment office to complete manual registrations for special student populations e.g. athletes, ACE, apprenticeships, and others, and create and maintain spreadsheets to track student activity.

2. Identify groups of students that need proactive outreach by creating and compiling queries for proactive enrollment through Colleague, Colleague Advise, Informer, and other potential systems used in Student Services and work with Deans to develop plans for enrollment.

3. Assist with elevated questions and concerns related to enrollment raised by students, faculty, and others in order to arrive at timely and accurate resolutions and serve as student advocate as necessary.

4. Work as lead for the Student Information System and other student service platforms. e.g. Colleague (SIS), Colleague Advise, Recruit (CRM), and other potential systems used in Student Services.

5. Address registration, program of study, and billing errors related to the Colleague (SIS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and incorrect language related to the College website, as appropriate.

6. Support SSS I position with front office campus operations as needed during peak times.

7. Facilitate the use of emergent technologies to better support the student enrollment experience.

8. Trains and directs college student workers with appropriate approval.

9. Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

EDUCATION : An earned Associate’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or similar.

EXPERIENCE : 3 years or more experience in admissions, enrollment services, or related student services positions with demonstrated data analysis experience.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) plan provided by the College, no payroll deductions

Vision

NVA (National Vision Administrators) plan provided by the College, no payroll deductions

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

Health Care, Limited Purpose, Dependent Care, and Adoption FSAs are available

Life Insurance

TheCollege provides $120,000 of coverage (portion is subject to taxation), no payroll deductions

Disability

70% of wages provided for Short-Term and Long-Term Disability

Retirement

  • College employees are part of the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS) provided by the Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS)
  • The Exempt, Faculty, and Teamsters employee groups can elect the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) provided by TIAA; opting out of MPSERS

Voluntary Retirement Accounts

Employees can open and contribute via payroll deduction into 403(b) and / or 457(b) voluntary retirement accounts

Part-time Classified employees are offered the opportunity to have medical, dental, vision at the full monthly premium; life insurance is also available at a nominal cost.

Participation requires that benefit costs be taken via payroll deduction.

Medical

  • There are 4 PPO Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) medical plans within the Western Michigan Health Insurance Pool (WMHIP) that employees can choose from
  • Medical plans include prescription coverage, free in-network preventive services, and a Health Savings Account (HSA) with high deductible medical plans

Dental

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) plan that has free in-network preventive services including two annual cleanings

Vision
