Job Title: Secondary Classroom TeacherLocation: Instruction/CurriculumJob Group: EducatorPay Level: ExemptReports to: Principal and/or designeeSummary: To develop a proficiency based instructional program and provide a class environment that promotes learningand personal growth; to motivate students to develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to provide a strongacademic foundation for continual education and the world of work according to each student’s ability; to establisheffective relationships with students, parents/guardians, community members and other staff members.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.1. Demonstrates the district's Professional Standards for Teachers.2. Universally designs lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small groupinstruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.3. Incorporates content area proficiencies and SB student learning expectations (SLEs) as learning targets in unitand lesson plans.4. Assesses and monitors learning using a variety of methods and adjusts instruction accordingly to individualstudent needs.5. Communicates regularly with students and parents/guardians outside normal classroom day by means ofupdated student management system class pages, newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, othertechnology.6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.7. Evaluates students' academic and personal growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reportsand report cards.8. Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.9. Is available to students and parents/guardians for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.10. Plans and coordinates the work of employees, parents/guardians, student interns, and volunteers in theclassroom and on field trips.11. Creates an environment that is instructionally appropriate for age/grade of students.12. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter using current best practices and as specified in statelaw and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.13. Leads a student advisory through activities that follow the school’s Advisory model.14. Supervises students in non-instructional situations such as study halls, lunch, and hallways.General Responsibilities: Supervises classroom employees, students, interns, and volunteers. Monitors studentdiscipline through an appropriate student management program. Assists administration in establishing andmaintaining school-based student management and a positive learning environment. Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule.Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily. Advanced work in assigned subjectmatter preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Vermont Teaching License (K-12 or 6-12), with appropriateendorsement for academic assignment and/or level of assignment.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret textbooks, periodicals, professional journals, technicalprocedures, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write lesson plans, reports, correspondence, andprocedures. Ability to effectively present information individually and in group settings and to respond to questionsfrom students, parents/guardians, staff and the public. Ability to use a variety of assessments for student workincluding the design and assessment of performance tasks related to content area proficiencies and SLEs assignedto the program or course. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, andadministration.Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference andthe fundamentals of algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, andproportions to practical situations. Ability to use a variety of assessments for student work including the design andassessment of performance tasks related to content area proficiencies and SLEs assigned to the program orcourse.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situationswhere only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,diagram, or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;ability to deploy the tenants of Universal Design for Learning to plan and implement lessons based on content areaproficiencies and student learning expectations (SLEs) for all students. Ability to establish and maintain effectiverelationships with students, peers and parents/guardians; skilled in oral and written communication. Ability toperform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Vermont Education Quality Standards (EQS), applicablelaws, and Board policies.
