City Of San Leandro is Hiring a Crime Analyst Near San Leandro, CA

***THIS RECRUITMENT HAS BEEN EXTENDED. IT WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.***
Definition: Performs a variety of highly specialized technical assignments in support of the City’s law enforcement activities; provides crime and criminal intelligence research and analysis in order to project crime trends, linkages, and recommends deployment strategies; disseminates criminal intelligence information provided by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies relative to general criminal activities and specific criminal investigations; and performs related work as required.
Supervision Exercised and Received: This class has no supervisory responsibility; may provide technical support to staff. Receives limited supervision from assigned management and/or supervisory staff.
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.
  • Conducts research and analysis of criminal justice information, including criminal patterns and trends in support of Criminal Investigation Division;
  • Performs statistical and analytical research of crime and intelligence data and provides recommendations to departmental personnel;
  • Uses general and specialized computer applications in order to gather and analyze crime and intelligence data for crime pattern detection, suspect-crime correlations, target-suspect profiles, and crime forecasting;
  • Reviews, interprets, categorizes, and enters information in databases, creates reports, charts, graphs and other means of conveying relevant and detailed information clearly and accurately;
  • Extract data and develop a variety of standards and customized reports, charts, graphs, and maps; and

Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, criminology, business administration, police science, social science, public administration, statistical analysis, or closely-related field. Master’s degree is highly desired.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience involving data analysis and evaluation for the implementation of program in the criminal, behavioral or social science fields.
Licenses/certifications/other requirements:
  • Classification requires the possession and continued maintenance of a valid class “C” California driver’s license. 
  • Possession of a Department of Justice Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certificate or completion of California POST-certified coursework in crime analysis is highly desired.
